My wife and I went to Bistro 29 for our tenth anniversary. When we went on our honeymoon in Franc and Italy, we went to great crepe restaurant in Avignon, so when we saw a restaurant in Sonoma we had to go. The entire staff was incredibly polite and friendly and service fast and efficient and the atmosphere cozy and inviting. We started with the “Soupe des Johnnies- onion-cider soup with buckwheat crêpe dentelle & gruyère cheese”. We’re vegetarian, and most French onion soups are either made with beef broth, or are vegetarian but lack that savory, umami flavor. This was the definite exception, one of the best soups we’ve ever had. We also had an asparagus-corn soup, which though not quite as impressive as the onion soup was still very good, and the asparagus tasted like it had been picked that afternoon. For crepes we had the forestière & gruyère with mixed greens and ratatouille & gruyere, both of which were wonderful. We had simple chocolate ganache crepe for dessert, and as I said to our server, if I had been at home I would have licked the plate clean. Bistro 29 was the perfect place for our anniversary and we highly recommend it.
