The location is perfect, corner of Broadway and 2nd street. At the back of 3rd street promenade and one block from Ocean Avenue and Palisades Park and a very short walk to Santa Monica Pier.
I couldn't have asked for a better location.
The staff are very friendly. The room are clean and adequate. The little complimentary toilettries are unique (if you collect them, they are a must - I don't but I made a friend very happy!!...).
Complimentary copy of USA today every morning delivered to your door. Complimentary breakfast in the lobby, choice of tea or coffee with croissants and various types of danish. If you're not satisfied with this, there's a brilliant little cafe next door, Jinky's, which has a huge choice of breakfast and other meals, I recommend the French toasts!
Because of this location, you can walk to all the shops (3rd street, Fred Segal, SM Place Mall - although the later is being refurbished this year) and loads of restaurants, cinemas, bars and even a British pub!
I travel on my own and I always felt safe walking around at night! So I definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who fancy a stay in Santa Monica. The price was also very reasonable considering the ideal location!!!!

I was worried when I went to the hotel Carmel because of all the recent bad reviews. But I was pleasantly surprised when I got there. The room was very clean but small. The bed was so comfortable too. I found the bathroom to be very nice. Again, it was very clean.

Yes, the hallways are creaky and a little dingy. But who cares? You're not staying in the hallways.

There was a continental breakfast offered in the morning. I didn't really eat anything, but it was nice having fresh juice and coffee available.

Finally, the location was great. It's one block away from the Third St. Promenade. And a short walk from the pier.

This hotel is by far the best value in Santa Monica and I will definitely stay there again when I return.

i always wonder why i never see pic of the rooms from this hotel whenever i look them up online... well, now you can see them...

location - location - location, it's perfect! (location wise that is). a block from the 3rd street promenade and the pier. have just spent 2 million on refurbishing the old hotel, but i really cant see it - sorry.

what i love from this hotel is its furniture... it's so renee macintosh era (whatever era he's from-cant remember). beautiful furniture!!!

the hotel itself is average. the staff were friendly and helpful. the room is small (if only they put 1 kingsize bed it would be spacious, rather than 2 oversize single beds) and overal is clean-ish. the lift is old, bumpy and can only fit 2 adults and 2 bags :)
the breakfast: tea, coffe, danish pastries and croissant - average but i'll fill you up and it's free!

if you're looking for luxury, you wont find it here, but as long as the staff are friendly, the room's clean(-ish in this case), the bed has no bug in it, the hot water is running and the location is perfect, this one may be your cup of tea too...

Worst hotel i have been in my life!!!!
Nasty, smell, old and noise.
They gave me a "suite" that was at the 3rd floor at the corner between 2nd and broadway, we spent all nigth wake up, because of noise and no coverture at the windows, bath soooo dirty and smells like hospital.
Stay far from there.....you pay a mlot for wath you get.

May 13, 2008 | Trip type: Friends getaway

I really liked this hotel, the perfect location! I was travelling with to other friends and we stayed for a week. We all had a big suitcase, and we shared a room with to standar twin beds. The room was nice, it was clean, large comfertable beds and roomy bathroom. The staff were nice and helpful when ever we had questions or requests. The elevator was kind of small, but that was'nt really a problem. My friends always took the stairs, but I have a disability and Im dependent on an elevator, but i did'nt find it a problem. But if you are dependent on a wheelchair it can be a problem, you should check with the hotel if they have another elevator thats bigger.

Overall I was very pleased and for that price at that location, I will stay there again if i come back.
