I and three other guests celebrated our 2005 New Years Eve in their restaurant. The dinner arrangements and prices were agreed to in advance - deposit required. The night went so, so, but the service was well below expectations for a 4-5 star hotel! The waitress was inexperienced and I received classier service at a Denny’s! When the bill came we noticed a few discrepancies and brought it to their attention. They agreed to fix the bill accordingly. After 3 attempts to correct their obvious mistakes, they refused to correct it again and were very rude about it. We also came to realize that one other couple had similar OVERCHARGES on their bill as well. Obviously they thought we did not know our math. When I received my Am Ex bill it showed that the hotel overcharged me $207.47! Three months later I am still disputing the charges through Am Ex. I will NEVER visit that hotel again!

My family and I stayed at Hotel Casa Del Mar for two nights during Summer 2004. The room charge has since been credited to my American Express account because of our terrible experience. I am still working on obtaining full credit for the 40,000 reward points that I was charged for the second night.

This hotel is completely unaccommodating. I requested two double or queen beds two weeks in advance of my stay. When I arrived (shortly ahead of check in) I was told that no such rooms were available and that it was the fault of the travel agency for not properly communicating the request to the hotel. I received no positive assistance, only a belligerent attitude and the consistent blaming of a third party. Judging by the recent reviews of this hotel, that attitude prevails.

I have stayed in many hotels at all service levels in several countries and this is the first time I have walked away from a reception desk completely dissatisfied and frustrated. My wife and I had plenty of room on the king size bed, but the additional roll away took up the remaining space in the bedroom area, and our 10 year old had to sleep on the love seat style sofa with his feet dangling over the edge. Although they were aware of our situation, the hotel never followed up to see how we were coping with the inadequate room.

I have not even stayed at Casa Del Mar yet, and I have had horrible service. I booked a room through platinum American Express, requesting two double beds. Two days before my stay, the hotel called and said they don't have that room, "sorry." Now it is too late to find another comparable hotel. What's the point of paying more than $400 a night for a hotel if there is no accomodating the customer.

We spent 3 nights at this hotel and would say this is a very average hotel.

From the point of arriving we were left dispointed, no doorman or porter to help with luggage which may seem trivial but when you are paying top bucks you expect this sort of service.

Once we had struggled in with our suitcases up the elevator to reception we were told our room was not ready, after about 15 minutes we complained and they eventually found a room for us. At last a porter arrivers to take our luggage, or is it his tip? Once taken to the room we found someone elses luggage in it, fortunately we kept the room and the luggage was removed.

No complaints about the room very nice with good view of pier and great bathroom with jet bath, but be warned noise is a problem. Every morning we were woken by our neighbours who seemed to get up at 6am and we could hear everything they said, plus the noise from the wondeful jet bath.

When checking out I was asked did I enjoy my stay and expained my problems, no apologise all I got was a shrug and a very large bill!
