We spent two nights in the Casa Dal Mar in June 2006. The room was amazing, and even though we paid for a "city view" we were given a partial ocean/ pool and gardens view. The room is nicely decorated with a chaise at the foot of the bed. Our favorite part of the room was the hydrothreapy tub, like a little spa retreat in itself. The fitness area is nice, and adjacent to the spa. The pool is really small, more for a quick dip to cool off from sun bathing. The outdoor jacuzzi was nice. The best part of the pool deck was the view. (please see attached photos) We had dinner here one night and found the food to be really well done, and not too pricey (about $100 for two).
The only downside was the hidden costs, like $26 dollar a day valet parking (they were very helpful). We found the people working the front desk to be a little snobby, but the rest of the staff was really great.
So for about $350 a night this was an excellent choice for a relaxing end to our Southern California vacation. Just have lots of ones for tipping! (valet, room service, etc)
