“Some improvement”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

Last spring I stayed at this hotel, one that I have stayed at many times before, and held three large corporate events. I love the location, the food is quite good, it's an easy walk to the beach, restaurant and downtown, and easy location to freeways and the PCH. Last April I wrote about dirty stained carpet, inattentive staff, public areas not as clean as they should be and incredibly slow dining room service. I vowed I would not stay again, but a last minute trip and other hotels full brought me back for another try. Someone's been paying attention. While the carpets have not been replaced and are still dated, they are at least clean and not stained. A huge improvement in customer service, genuine, helpful, pleasant, from the great valet guys to a better front desk, and people who actually spoke to you in the halls and lobby. In fact, I am quite sure the same young woman who checked me in so pleasantly this time was the same young woman with a 'tude last time who drove me crazy. They've added a free coffee bar in the lobby, which is good because none of my coffee pots worked in the room (a fuse issue no one could locate). So, good job Le Merigot. Now replace that carpet and you're closer to being worth $400 a night again.

Room Tip: The rooms with the ocean views and balconies are the best, but also pricier.

This hotel is about a ten minute walk from the Third Street Promenade, which has loads of shopping and restaurant choices, and the pier, which has a little amusement park. It sits across from the beach, but doesn't really feel beach front, since there is a street, other buildings, and a big parking lot sort of in the way. From our room, however, we could see the waves rolling in. The rooms are a little worn, but the staff was about as happy and helpful as any I've seen.

We chose this hotel to overnight after a flight from Boston before an onward flight to Tahiti. We decided we wanted a place where we could walk between the long flights, and enjoy some time that would "feel" a little like vacation even though it was really a layover. We chose Marriott because my husband has status with them and gets some benefits, including a nice upgrade at this property!

Theme and decor: The lobby area has a low slung Southern California vibe, with modern lighting and furnishings. The pool area has that Southern California vibe, with peek a boo views of the ocean and pier, but far enough away from the hub bub that you don't feel exposed!

Location: This hotel is within walking distance of the beach and pier. The hotel is located on Ocean Ave, which is a busier road parallel to the beach. The rear of the property has access to a quiet road on which the beach lies, you walk though the pool area, out a room key card accessible door, and across the quiet street and onto the beach. The cab fare from LAX was $40 plus a tip in very light traffic.

Service: The staff at the front desk was super friendly, upgrading us to a Junior Suite and sending up champagne and strawberries when we mentioned it was our 25th wedding anniversary and we were headed to Tahiti to celebrate.

Rooms: The room 449, was large with a full size couch and king size bed. Lots of colorful furnishings and blond wood. The best part was the huge private roof deck with 2 chairs, dining table and a lounger. In the morning we could see that there was a twin to our room next to us on 4, and there appeared to be some sort of similar roof deck with 4 tables and chairs and umbrellas above and behind our room. The room had distant views of the beach, past rooftops of other buildings closer to the beach.

Dining: We had a very nice breakfast poolside, but otherwise didn't dine at the resort.
Amenities: There was a spa we didn't use, as well as the outdoor pool. We did take advantage of the joggers oasis, an area with maps of the area, water and towels to use when you return.

Activities and Attractions: The pier is within walking distance of course, as well as all the funky shops in SM and the beach. We didn't stay long enough to do a thorough exploration, but there is plenty to see and do and most of it is just outside the door of the hotel.

Stayed here on business recently and used the meeting facilities as much as anything else. The staff was very attentive to our group's wifi needs and the food was pretty good -- standard hotel continental breakfast, and the lunch options came from the on-site restaurant.

The location is great -- not too far from LAX, and practically right on the beach. There are some good restaurant options within walking distance on Ocean Ave., and of course the Santa Monica Pier is right there.

The guest rooms were nice and big -- larger than most hotels I've stayed in. Housekeeping staff was excellent.

Maybe the nicest thing of all was the outdoor courtyard/bar area where we were able to sit around a small firepit and watch the big screen TV on the wall.

Would definitely stay here again.

After a huge USA holiday coming to an end, we decided to stay in Santa Monica for the last few nights, and chose this place...

And we are SO glad we did!!!

The Staff we're absolutely amazing on the front desk, and the maids/housekeepers on level 3 are WONDERFUL! They we're very lovely to us during our stay.

upon entering our room, we found that they had accidently left a cheese & fruit platter and wine in our room. I called up asking if it was for us, and they let us have it for free.

The pool was lovely and warm and the gym.... VERY FANTASTIC!! I love going to the gym and this was first class!!

The rooms were awesome and was the most comfy bed I have ever slept on.

Santa Monica itself, was filled with many homeless people and pot smokers.... lol
So just keep to yourself when walking by. We never had a problem though at all.

Would DEFINITELY stay here again.
This was a perfect Marriott hotel.

Extremely quiet room for an extremely light sleeper. What a relief. On a Friday night too! Great room. Awesome location. The staff was very helpful, the king bed was great, and the bathroom was huge. Great value!

We went to stay at the beach and lay by the pool. The pool is at the lowest level, so the hotel block the sun early in the afternoon. Staff was attentive and nice hotel. Beach access is through an alleyway.

Room Tip: Top floor ocean balcony or you'll be looking at the street.
