Needed someplace reasonable to stay while they "tented" our home for termites. Since I grew up and lived in Santa Monica for 40+ years (and we live close by) I gave this Travelodge on Pico a try - based on some pretty positive reviews in TripAdvisor.

First off, for the price (and the area), I suppose it's OK. You could do a lot worse in Santa Monica. (Try the TL down on Ocean Ave - or any of the other motels there - and you'll know what I mean.) Second, I don't think most people have really fussy expectations of a Travelodge - I certainly didn't. As TL's go, this one is firmly at the top of the 2-star range. Check in was friendly, if efficiently busy, and the facility has ample parking and there are a few buildings to choose from. We stayed in the main building on the first floor - as close to the reception office as you can get. A real plus about this location is the restaurants. Granted, most people will need a car to get to other areas of Santa Monica (and the tourist type stuff, 3rd street, Pier, etc.), but this stretch of Pico has some really great (and underrated) places to eat. A 20 minute walk in either direction on Pico will get you some decent Mexican, Italian, BBQ, Burgers, etc. (Lares, Gilbert's, SF Saloon for great burgers, Don Antonio's Valentino, etc.). Not the most "hip" in S.M., but if that's your scene look (and stay) elsewhere.

That said, the rooms themselves - while updated somewhat - are a little noisy. Building itself is typical TL construction. We had folks above us tromping around most of the night, and since we actually had to go to work at 6:00 a.m. the next day, we were a little tired. (It's a Travelodge, what do you expect!) Recommend earplugs and leave the fan on to alleviate some of that. I note that many of the more positive reviews for this place are from our friends across the pond. Having stayed in literally hundreds of B&B's and small hotels in UK and Europe, I can see why this TL more than meets expectations. In fact, I would recommend this location for friends visiting from overseas - it's close enough to everything w/out being stuck in the tourist dives along Ocean Ave. However, to some of us "yanks," this ain't the Marriot. (What do you want - it's a Travelodge!)

Beds were comfortable enough - if not a bit on the hard side. Breakfast in the main building is also fine - my son was happy to get his Fruit Loops, and there's juice, coffee, sliced muffins, etc. Don't want that? There's a McD's two blocks down Pico. Personally, I'd recommend sticking w/the light breakfast. Or if you've got the time, go to Gilbert's about 6 blocks s. on Pico. Great and filling Huevos Rancheros.

Overall, it's an OK place to stay for a few nights (as we have to) if you absolutely *have* to stay IN Santa Monica. Otherwise .... It's a Travelodge - what do you expect?

“superior travelodge”

Thought i had made a mistake when i entered this travelodge, have stayed in a few 'tired' ones. Instantly recognised as superior , in reception, staff, room. lots of little extras not associated with 'budget' hotel. We were upgraded to a kingsize bed at no extra cost. 24hr coffee avail. Advised to get 'the big blue bus' 75c to the beach. At $119 dollars compared to the not so attractive looking travelodge on the pier at $169 + $10 parking I would definetly go back to Pico. If there was apool I never noticed it.

“Clean and adequate”

First and foremost there are no lifts at this hotel, so if you are planning on travelling with lots of luggage, do take this into consideration when booking.

Our room was very clean as was the whole hotel. Separate bathroom with wash basin in bedroom. Toiletries were replenished every day.

Comfortable bed, pillows were totally flat and hard. The air con was so noisy we had to turn it off to get some sleep. Very poor lighting in room. .

Complimentary breakfast is included here however there are only about 6 tables for 2 for the whole hotel and although we are early risers we didn't manage to get a table at all during our duration. It may however be possible to take food to the room,

The staff were exceptionally pleasant and helpful and free parking was an absolute bonus.

One concern we did have was that the fire exit door just a few feet from our room and out onto the car park was wedged open all day and night. From a security point of view it didn't really give me much peace of mind.

I stayed here for 6 nights and was very impressed with the travelodge and would definately stay again. The room was modern and new, a v.good, clean bathroom and decent sized beds. Our room was in one of the courtyards which are very secure and you can feel safe. The breakfast is good- cereal, toast, juice etc. The bus to Santa Monica is a 2 minute walk and it only takes 15 mins on the bus to get there. The staff are very pleasant, only downpoint was when we arrived and were struggling up the steps with our bags and no one came to help even though they could see us from inside. However would definately choose to stay here if I visited Santa Monica again.

“Great little hotel!”

Travelodge Santa Monica Pico Boulevard

Finding a clean hotel room that is in a decent neighborhood for around $100 a night in west Los Angeles is very difficult. I was delighted to find the Travelodge Pico Blvd. in Santa Monica. My 12-year old and I just spent 4 nights there on our 'spring break roadtrip' and had a marvelous experience.

We were given a room with 2 double beds, small kitchen with microwave and refrigerator, table and chairs. The room was quite large, and very clean, with very comfortable mattresses, a larger bathroom and plenty of room in the kitchen area for our cooler and extras.

I recommend you ask for a room in building 3 or 4, where the exterior doors all face onto a secure, very lovely courtyard with lawn furniture and 2 large barbecues. There is plenty of off-street parking, and the surrounding neighborhood and street businesses are very nice. Best of all, it is next door to a Trader Joe's!!

The room was very quiet and we were surprised to hear little or no street noise. While we were there, they were installing new flat-screen TV's in each room. Yeah!

I have definitely found our place to stay in west LA. I recommend this hotel highly.
