“Affordable choice for your Santa Monica stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2011

Pros: clean, well-appointed rooms with fridge, microwave, safe and the best TV service I've ever seen in a motel (a nice-sized flat screen with 200+ digital cable channels). Location is an easy 5-minute drive (or $1 bus ride) to the beach. Lots of dining/shopping choices nearby.
Cons: Free breakfast is rather weak and the dining area gets crowded fast. Parking is very tight in the narrow lots for each building.

This is a series of four buildings that stretch for a block down Pico Blvd. We paid extra for a room on a private courtyard between two buildings, but in hindsight that probably isn't necessary unless you plan to spend time lounging outside. And while we didn't experience it in our one-night stay, it's more likely the courtyard could attract a party that might be noisy.

We were only here for 3 days after arriving from Australia before continuing on our travels and found the hotel adequate. Yes it is a bit dated but the king bed was super comfortable and the room had everything you needed. It was a bit noisy from traffic and the a/c was also a bit old and noisy but did the job. We had read about the breakfast but found it adequate. The blue bus line runs past the hotel and we used this daily to get around. Only $1 to get to Santa Monica Pier and the buses run every 10 mins or so. Staff were very helpful with tourist information. It is a good cheap stay but still covers everything that you need. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to keep their accommodation bill as low as possible.

I picked this hotel on the favourable reviews and it's location. We booked four nights here. But was hugely disappointed on arrival. The room was small, dated with a musty smell. The courtyard view we paid extra for was terrible. You had to keep the curtains closed as everyone could see in. Making the room dark and miserable.
Had a terrible nights sleep. Was kept awake all night by the inhabitants above. The floorboards creaked so badly it was impossible to sleep over it. This went on till the early hours. You could hear the conversations of the people next door as well as the bathroom.
The following morning, breakfast was really poor. Bread and bananas was about all that was on offer, with foul sweet juice. We had to dash off early that morning for an organised tour already booked. To find the door card would not let us back in. After two return trips to the reception to get the card reprogrammed, they then called the Handy Man. His card didn't gain access either. So he had to break in, by removing the very flimpsy fly screen and unclipping the window very easily, this did nothing to make us feel very secure here. Plus we only just made the tour with a minute to spare with the hold up.
The following night was even worse, woken at 1am by a load of middle aged party gooers laughing and talking loudly next door. This died down at 2am,. then woken shortly after by the residents above returning from their night out with the floor walking that went on till gone 4am.
After two nights of no sleep, we decided to check out early. Reception were very understanding and dealt with the complaint with only charging for the 1 night, which was very good customer service. We moved to the Marina Del Ray Hotel, which was 100% better and almost the same cost. Had a lovely habour view, large room, pool, free parking and it was a far superior location.
I couldn't fault the staff at the Travelodge, however the building really lets it down. It's more like a cheap Butlins and needs knocking down. I have never ever checked out of a place early, and this is the worst place I have ever stayed in in the US. Pay extra and stay somewhere else.

Room Tip: Make sure it's on the top floor.

What a gem in the rough! Large room, with huge flat screen TV, microwave, safe, fridge, as you can tell the rooms have everything!! Its clean, quiet, and the breakfast is abundant! Free parking and wifi! Best thing to do is catch a bus ( bus stop is near the hotel) 15 minute ride to the beachfront, it is worth it to avoid the hassle of parking and the expense! $1 bus ride cant beat that! Staff is friendly and ask them for directions of the local Mexican restaurant, its good food and priced really good! You will defiantly enjoy your stay! Perfect spot! They also have a business centre for free internet access!! Enjoy!!

This hotel is conveniently located at 31st and Pico, not too far from Santa Monica College. You will need your car, and there is parking !! It's not near the beach, but within ten minutes or less driving distance. It's easy access to the 10 and 405 freeway. The far building has a nice patio, barbeque, laundry machines, and a security gate. Room was small but very clean; updated bathroom. Microwave and small frig in room. Very good water pressure with plenty of hot water. The breakfast was very standard fare for cold continental breakfast, but Trader Joe's is next door (great muffins to buy), and Rae's Cafe (good pancakes and eggs) is only two blocks away. Teenagers might find the location boring; it's a lot quieter than a Ocean Blvd. location.

Room Tip: Ask for a courtyard building room.
