This place wins in my opinion, based on location, price, the decent pool and hot tub and the kitchy but very enjoyable outdoor koi/turtle pond. Hang out at one of the tables by torch light in the evening, watch the Koi swim about and you may forget that your room needs a facelift.
The rooms are not the nicest I've seen from a Fairmont, but they are certainly okay -- smallish and a bit on the "Grandma goes Hawaiin" side (in the Ocean Tower). The service is luke-warm and uneven. I'd go so far as to say, the whole place is decidedly un-hip, but has a certain charm.
For $300 a night, it's a deal in SM. Rooms are very clean, beds are very comfortbale and it has great amenities. The Huntley has hipper rooms, but it has none of the outdoor space and charm of the Fairmont.
