This is a great hotel in a great location. Santa Monica is a great place to base yourself for a trip to the LA area. It's very easy to get to everywhere you want to go, and is in easy walking distance to the beach, 3rd Street Promenade and dozens of good restaurants. The rooms are plenty big enough and the restaurants and coffee shops are convenient. I have absolutely no complaints, except for the cost of parking which is high everywhere in LA. Very quiet and in a safe neighborhood. I would definitely recommend to families, business travelers or anyone else traveling to LA

We stayed at the DoubleTree Santa Monica in September, 2006 on our vacation to LosAngeles. We found it to be very clean and the staff very accommodating and friendly. The soft comfy bed was loaded with fluffy pillows. I was surprised that the room did not include a safe. My husband wanted a hotel with a gym. The DoubleTree has a fantastic gym! We ate breakfast every day at the Fourth Street Grille because it was so convenient. You can order from the menu or have the buffet which includes everything you can think of. We had the buffet but it was pricey, $37 with tip for 2 people. The location of the hotel is so convenient - right at the exit for route 10. In driving around LosAngeles, we noticed that there weren't a lot of nice looking hotels. We were very glad that we chose this hotel even though it was more than we would have usually paid. We would definitely stay here again.

Very well run property, with outstanding staff and clean rooms. Rooms have new bed and bath linens, which are fanatastic. Decent fitness room and pool. Has a small guest laundry (one washer, one dryer). Exceptional breakfast buffet; nothing out of the ordinary on the menu, but everything was fresh and well prepared.

Hotel is a short walk to the beach and the Promenade shopping/restaraunt area. However, it is not directly on either, so beware if this is important to you.

This is an all suites property. On the positive side, you get a large suite; on the other hand you may be paying for more than you really need.

Date of Stay: September 2006.

“Brilliant Stay”

Doubletree Guest Suites Santa Monica

What a fantastic hotel. We booked an ocean view room, so we were on the seventh floor (there are eight floors). And you could see the ocean, just, as there weren't many high rises in front of us. I wouldn't want a room facing the other side of the hotel, as you would look out onto the freeway. The hotel is very clean, and everyone was friendly, the cookies are lovely and not small. Our room was a suite and it had a little kitchen area, then a sitting room, leading off this was a bathroom and then a dressing room and a bedroom. The bed was really comfy, and we had the ocean view from both the bedroom and the sitting room. The hotel is only a five minute walk away from the 3rd street promenade where all the shops and restaurants were, and only about an eight minute walk away from the pier entrance. The only drawback was having to pay for parking, which I don't like doing, it was $18 a night not including tax. We didn't use the restaurant or bar area during our stay so I can't comment on those. The swimming pool looked nice and there was a spa area as well. We would definately stay there again as it was handy for everywhere, but like with all hotels you get what you pay for, book a decent room on the hilton website at the best available rate and you won't be disappointed, we weren't!

We always use the Hilton hotels when travelling. We have just returned from a two week stay at the Doubletree. On arrival after 21 hours travelling we were handed a small biscuit at the check in desk, I don't see what all the fuss is about these cookies. On arrival at the room we noticed that the carpet was stained in a large area in front of the sofa bed and the arms of the sofa similarly stained, as were the curtains which also smelled and looked very dirty. We took some photos. We contacted the desk clerk who said he would look for another room for us the next day and we are still waiting for it. The coffee table was very marked and the veneer was absent and or peeling. We had gunge coming up the bathroom sink and it smelled awful. You could write your name in the dirt around the television and the room was not dusted for days at a time, then only partially, and it was never hoovered at all. I sunk into the hollow in the bed. We had requested a fridge , which we were charged for in advance and it was in our room on return from an outing, however I had to buy antiseptic wipes to clean it as it was all green mould inside and I could not get the black marks off the outside. There are black marks on the bedroom walls. Perhaps we expected too much for $266 a night. There was also a lot of noise from the 10 Freeway which is very close, about 2 minutes walk and seen from our room. Room service was a tray which was very poorly presented, and lacking in necessities. The staff never said hello and we gave up trying to be friendly. We have had better accommodation and service for less money and have decided not to use this hotel again.
