dinner room is too much like breakfast setting, but excellent food for all meals. bar not open in afternoon. hospitality of staff is wonderful. very clean and updated rooms and lobby. parking is too high, but $5.00 public lot across street.

We appreciate you taking the time to let us know that you found the hospitality of our staff wonderful. In addition, please note that we are one of the very few full service hotels that does not charge for Wi-FI anywhere throughout the property.

This was a beautiful hotel that is very convienient to the beach. Just a short walk to Santa Monica Pier A must stay for anyone who wants an excellent last night before a short drive back to LAX. Guest services are top notch. Top floor is the best ocean view without having to be right on the beach.

we stayed in this hotel in October 2013. The hotel itself is very clean and staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is only a ten minute walk to the pier in S/M and shopping area. we parked our rental car across the street from the hotel in the civic centre Car Park, its only $5 a day and is very secure. the valet parking is expensive in the hotel. there is a starbucks in the hotel lobby which came in handy. The Buffet breakfast was $18 for an adult but would fill you up for the day. i would recommend this hotel to anyone and would stay there again.

Room Tip: rooms at the side of the hotel are quieter

From the moment we checked in we were treated like royalty! In a town where everyone is vying to be noticed its nice to be treated like you're somebody special! The staff really goes out of their way to personally help you and take care of anything you need. The location is great. Close to the beach and famous pier. Also the 3rd St Promenade is a couple blocks away. Great shopping and restaurants.

I stayed here late October for 5 nights with a trusted travel companion, and overall my second stay at Santa Monica, and I would have to honestly say that this is one of the best hotel experiences that I have enjoyed here.

The hotel itself is located just three blocks away from Santa Monica Pier and Third Street Promenade, yet is on a relatively quiet location. (Note: even though the hotel is next to a freeway, the traffic noise is remarkably to a minimum level!)

What really stands out on this hotel is the customer service, and they really commit to themselves (that is, the reception / bell desk / waiters / housekeeping / technicians) exceptionally well, and with such an assertive attitude and reassuring politeness!

A couple of prime examples of this excellent hospitality were the following:
First example: From the moment that we are checked in, the staff handed us a complimentary chocolate chip cookie, which is simple, but a nice, lovely gesture, as their way of saying welcome. They also have acknowledged my request that I have put in that I was celebrating my 30th birthday, and provided me with a birthday cake (chocolate flavored with glazed strawberry), complete with a birthday card. A truly amazing experience that I have enjoyed, and I did not honestly expected that this level of service would happen!

The other example was when the television remote control did not operate on the living room of our hotel. The hotel has what they refer to as a 'Careline', where you can call for even the most finicky requests (like requesting another chocolate chip cookie!). I contacted the Careline service to address the problem, and within five minutes, the television technician showed up and fixed the remote control without any problems. The whole process took about 10 minutes to fix.

Both examples justifies that this hotel would go above and beyond to help their guests, and are always attentive in their duties!

Another big plus about this hotel that I find was the natural lighting, which complements the clear windows at the top of the lobby and within our hotel room. Truly a wonderful, fresh feeling!

Overall, we find our stay a very pleasant experience, and should I travel to Santa Monica again, I'd stay at this hotel again in a heartbeat!

We wanted to have a quick long weekend in Santa Monica and returned to the Doubletree Suites. We had stayed there several years ago for a Xena convention and liked the proximity to the beach with a suite hotel.
The property is a little more worn but still a good buy. Our room was overlooking the high school baseball field and was on the second floor. The room was very quiet and well designed. There was a wet bar with mini frig, microwave, coffee maker and sink. The TVs were flat screened and you had high definition channels with HBO. You could access the bathroom from either the bedroom or the "living room". There is a Von's grocery store at Broadway between 7th and Lincoln so you can buy groceries to keep in the frig.

The pool is on the second floor and large enough to do laps. It is a salt water pool and I used it every day. A great way to start the day swimming as the sun rises. You get a peek a boo view of the ocean from the pool deck. One complaint I had was the pool area is a smoking spot. I know they have to provide some area to smoke but the one time someone was smoking, it makes the breathing the smokey air unpleasant when it is otherwise a lovely place.

The hotel is in a great location for bus service. We took the 2 bus right out front to UCLA for a day trip and the Rapid 10 at Santa Monica and 4th to Union Station. If you have not seen Union Station and have the time, it is a classic. We did a little walk around the sights downtown. LA has a very walkable downtown with a lot to see. Our AAA travel book was a guide to the sights.

Veronica and Edward deserve mention. Veronica gladly gave us umbrellas when rain threatened and Edward gave us advice on returning to LAX.

Room Tip: This is the second time we had a room overlooking the baseball field and it was quiet.

Stayed here last November for about 10 days seeking relaxation after travelling around California.
Rooms are extremely spacious and pretty well finished, pool area was quiet due to time of year but very clean.
I found the staff very polite and gave us absolutely no hassle until the last night we were staying. We arrived into the hotel "full-of-life" after a few drinks, but not causing a scene or any hassle to anyone.
We sat in the lobby for 10 mins then ventured back to our rooms as we had an early flight the next day. One member of staff knocked our room door and asked us if we had "stolen" a bundle of morning newspapers from the hallway??? I felt very insulted.
I offered him to come into the room and look around for himself if he didn't believe me but he just shook his head and continued his search for the "stolen newspapers".
Obviously if this guy had worded it a bit better, i wouldn't have felt so insulted.

Regardless of this, i would still recommend staying at the hotel if you need spacious rooms at OK value and well-located to the Pier/Beach etc.

Room Tip: Possibly ask for a room at the front of the building rather than the rear as you will be able to get...

Thank you for alerting us to the challenge with the newspapers, we will most certainly following-up from our end to ensure that this type of situation is never repeated. Thank you also for your continued faith in our hotel by still recommeding it.
