“Park over the road !!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013 via mobile

Stayed here for 10 days in August , booked a double queen bed suite , we were given one of the corner rooms , so the living room section was quite small , although we did have a small balcony ! Firstly , can't believe people don't do a bit of research , re the parking !! Hotel charges $32 a night for parking , there are 2 car parks over the road which charge $5 and $ 10 per day !!!! We used the public car park for the court ( not the multistorey) they charge maximum $5 per 24 hrs , up to 3 days, you can park right up in the corner nearest the hotel , probably quicker to get your car than to wait for the fellas to fetch your car from the valet parking !!
The staff at the hotel are great , sorted out some issues I had printing park tickets I bought online in the computer room . We had the breakfast included , couldn't fault it , I'd limit using the bar to a swift pint before going out as its expensive compared to bars in the nearby downtown area . Didn't order any food as its very expensive , although most hotels are !!!
Couple of tips if your stopping here with kids , the pool is nice , but there are only around 10 sunbed s !! We planned on having a 'pool' day between visiting the theme parks and stuff , but you need to go into full 'German' mode to get some sunbeds!!! We gave up on most days and headed for the beach !! Here is another tip, we visited Venice, Malibu and obviously santa Monica beaches , none of these have the usual sunbed hire your used to in Europe and elsewhere , and more importantly no sun shade hire !! Be prepared to sit on beach towels ( bring your own , we had to pay $80 for 4 !! Supply & demand!!) and if you've got young kids , budget to buy some sun shades from Walmart !!( be aware , they're not as plentiful as in Florida!!).Overall , the hotel is fine ,and santa Monica is a great place to stay and visit the attractions in LA.

We appreciate your comment that "the staff at the hotel are great"; we consider them our hidden amenity. Of important note, we do not charge for WiFi -- it is complimentary throughout the property. We look forward to your return visit to Santa Monica.

We reserved a king suite months in advance but when we arrived we were given a double suite, which we had to discover by going to the room. We called the front desk and they said the only king bed they had was a regular room. They didn't seem to care that we had reserved a king suite. "Sorry," was all we got. In addition, I wanted to redeem my honors points here but were told we couldn't do that. Two strikes. My husband wanted the king bed so we settled for a regular room. They were going to charge us the same price as the suite until I objected. Then they only knocked off twenty dollars. I was told when making the reservation that parking would cost $28. When we arrived, we were charged $32. The king room was the tiniest room I've ever seen. It was only big enough for the bed. It was so small that the tiny bathroom (with a tiny shower -- not even a tub) had to have a pocket door since a regular door would've hit the bed when you tried to open it. For $224 a night, it was a ridiculously tiny room. The bed was quite hard and uncomfortable on top of it all. I selected Double Tree so we would be sure to have a good bed, but that was a mistake.
The front desk was nice, but no one seemed to care that we were unhappy. The next morning my husband again spoke to the desk and the manager comped us a breakfast for their mistake.
We appreciated the manager's kindness but overall our experience here was dismal. We would not recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Don't get a regular king room unless you like tight spaces.

Thanking you for taking the time to let us know about your most recent experiences at the hotel. Most unfortunate that you did not receive the room type that you booked; again, our apologies. Generally, some unforeseen occurrence happened that prevented us from placing you into the property room type as we take great pride in meeting our guest’s expectations. Also, thank you for recognizing the several efforts attempted by the staff to make it right.

The place is ideally located couple of blocks from the Santa Monica Pier and mall. The hotel looks completed refurbished and nicely upgraded. Parking is expensive (32$ for valet). Swimming pool is located on the third floor and open till 10PM in the night. Gym is open 24x7. Breakfast buffet has a good variety and quality is quite good. Staff is quite friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and quite spacious. Bathrooms look newly done. Rooms are not quite in the morning and you could get woken up by the traffic.

Great service, very comfortable, very friendly, very helpful. Would stay there again. A little pricey, but it is California. We were there for a wedding with wedding rates, I know they offered breakfast with other rooms just not our offer, that would have been nice.

We were upgraded automatically to the HH floor on check-in, so we had a partial sea view which was nice. The room itself was of a good size and had a separate bedroom and lounge. Having just a sofa bed in the lounge though is not best if staying for around a week but as ours was just the night it was fine for the children. The whole place was very clean and breakfast was of good quality. The mini-bar area in the room with microwave, sink and fridge is also a nice touch. Pool area was ok. The location though is great with it being within walking distance of the main Santa Monica sights. Parking price is a bit steep, but the valet guys were very friendly and although you can get it cheaper across the way, we just didn't want the hassle (after all we were on holiday) and it was almost half the price we paid for parking in San Francisco ! Would definitely stay here again and we recommend the hotel.

I stayed here for five days at the end of August 2013. The hotel property was clean and the suite was adequate for 4 people without feeling cramped. The parking at the hotel is expensive, but there is a municipal lot across the street for 5 bucks a day. The pier is within walking distance but I would suggest you rent a car when visiting the area. The 3rd street promenade is nearby but most of the stores are high end and the restaurants are a little expensive. Plan on 150 dollars for a modest meal for a group of 4 people. Lunch ran around 75 dollars a day in this area. The hotel pool is small and not much atmosphere around the hotel. Hotel staff was pleasant and accommodating and the concierge desk is staffed around the clock. Good basic lodging and the room rate is average for this area.

Thank you for taking the time to write us about your recent stay. We receive a lot of positive comments about our rooms size and location -- nice to read that it met with your approval also. The hotel extends free Wi-Fi throughout the property in an effort to help offset the cost of parking.

We stayed for 4 nights visiting the area. The property to close to the beach and in a location that made traveling around pretty easy. The staff was really nice and very helpful. Definitely would stay there again.
