I love my boutique hotels and this hotel is absolutely right up my valley. It is achingly stylish and beautiful... the room was gorgeous, modern and overlooks the ocean... simply wonderful... The penthouse restaurant/bar is absolutely stunning... u get to see views of LA from there.. the decor was jawdropping perfect for me :)

Having said that, the attitude of staff (especially at reception) leaves much to be desired.. would it kill to throw a smile or two when dealing with customers? Surely that is the basic thing one should be prepared to do when dealing on front desk.....

The concierge however(a sweet Brit lady) was absolutely wonderful.. the other staff could learn a thing or two re the level of service from her... Anyway, just a constructive criticism ... I agree with the other reviewers.. this hotel has much style but to reach another level it needs to have substance... and by that it simply needs to start some form of customer service training for all its front desk staff. Just a little tip from a seasoned traveller....

  • Liked — The hip ambience
  • Disliked — The front desk staff.. simply arrogant and without reason.

Stayed at the Huntley for 4 nights Thursday to Sunday inclusive in early April. Booked 2 City View rooms through Expedia at an average
$261 per night. Each room had 2 x Queen beds and much to our surprise reasonable views of the beach.

Found the location fantastic in terms of access to restaurants & cafes in walking distance and proximity to the beach. The staff were great and the beds to die for!! Slept well every night in probably the most comfortable beds that I have slept in at Hotels. The top floor bar (Penthouse) was agreat place to go to unwind after a solid day's sightseeing or for some action after dinner. Had no problems getting access to the lifts despite the high patronage of the nightclub

My only complaints were that the lighting in the rooms wasn't great and there were no in room tea/cofee making facilities. That said the coffee from the little convenience store just off the foyer was some of the best we had in LA. Would definately stay at the Huntley again.

I stayed in Room 707 at the Huntley from February 11 to February 13 for a conference for work. The hotel is beautiful. From the posh lobby to the luscious bedspread and linens that are provided in the room, the Huntley is a wonderful place to stay while in Santa Monica. The location of the hotel is great, close to the Promenade, great shopping, delicious restaurants and best of all the Huntley is about a block away from the beach. My room actually had a partial view of the beach. Now when I say “partial” I mean partial, just look at the picture, but it was still a very nice view.
The room itself was great. I had two queen beds both with four down pillows and Egyptian cotton sheets, a very nice bathroom with a great marble shower, a huge walk-in closet, flat screen TV, a well stocked mini-bar and very close to the elevator. The Huntley provides nice bath robes and very comfy slippers as well as a safe in the closet. The hotel has a great bar on the top level to have drinks at with 360 degree views of Santa Monica. I hear the food at the restaurant is not bad either but I did not get a chance to eat at the hotel. The only thing that was disappointing at this hotel was the size of the gym. There really is not much in the gym except for one treadmill, an elliptical and a few machines for weights. Highly disappointing. The fire pit outside the lobby is very nice if you want to sneak a cigarette at night.
The staff I encountered was very nice. Had no problems with the concierges or the bartenders but the valet parking did take a long time so I suggest calling ahead if you want your car in the morning.

The Huntley Hotel presents a level of sophistication and hipness that upon first impression establish an exceptional level of guest stay. Unfortunately it is merely a first impression. Arrogant, non-courteous staff. Inconvenient, non-timely response to reasonable requests. General disregard to guests. It all adds up to a one and done, not worthy of a second opportunity in the event mine was an "off" night.

The highlight of my experience at the Huntley came at 4:12am in the morning. The in-room, battery operated, fire alarm started going off intermittently and would not stop. A call down to the front desk requesting assistance to cease the disturbance received a response that there was no staff available. Unbelievable. I'll save the debate and rhetoric, and clarify that The Huntley's offer of $20 off my $400 room was promptly rejected. This property is a joke.

  • Liked — The terrible experience @ The Huntley led to me finding a truly exceptional property blocks away...
  • Disliked — Staff

I recently stayed 4 nights at the Huntley Santa Monica and it was a nice stay but certainly not the luxury I was expecting after reading some reviews. The room was small and the walls VERY thin! Be ready to get acquainted with your neighbours more than you’d probably wish on holidays!!! It overall is a nice hotel in a good location, the views are lovely especially from the (overpriced but worth a visit) penthouse bar/restaurant. However I guess I wasn’t as impressed as some other fellow reviewers and whereas I would not find any reason not to recommend it, I would probably myself try a different hotel on my next stay in Santa Monica.
