During my stay at the Huntley, the staff were incredibly polite and attentive. If you don't eat at the Penthouse restaurant, at least take the glass elevator at the front of the hotel and go up to take a look at the view.
The Huntley is in a fantastic location for shopping and access to Venice Beach. Santa Monica pier is a relatively short walk away and you can find a pedestrianised street full of shops, cafés and restaurants on 3rd street. If you want to go further, the concierge will summon a cab from "Taxi! Taxi!" and you'll soon be on your way.
The room felt a little small, but I suspect I'm getting spoiled by random upgrades at other hotels, so that may not be a valid observation. It was perfectly fine for one person, but I imagined it would be a little cosy if I had my husband in tow.
Note that this is a pretty high-end area. If you're looking some something very casual and relaxed, this may not be your thing. If you like the kind of place where the "beautiful people" hang out, this is likely the spot for you.
More than anything, it seems to be full of business people (which is also why I stayed) and I will happily come back here on my next trip.
