“Upscale Hotel”

We stayed at The Huntley for one night to celebrate our anniversary. We were very impressed with the location and the hotel's proximity to restaurants, shopping, and the beach. Our room was large and we had a partial ocean view. The decor in the room was simple and unimpressive, but the room was clean and very quiet at night. We had dinner outside of the hotel because the restaurant was booked. Call ahead if you want a reservation on a Saturday night. We returned to hotel after dinner and went to the bar for an after dinner drink. The bar was hopping! We stayed for a few hours enjoying the music, people, and delicious drinks. We highly recommend the coconut espresso martini...YUM!

We stayed at the Huntley because it was designated as one of the Host Hotels for the 2013 ASICS LA Marathon.
What a wonderful experience. Our room was a corner unit with a great view of Santa Monica Beach & the Pacific.
Well appointed room with a large King sized bed - Modern tasteful decoration - Ample lighting - Up to date bathroom with a large walk-in shower. Room was very nice! We were less than 2 blocks from the Marathon finish line which was a big plus for us.
Concierge was very familiar with the local lay out - turned us on the 3rd Street Promenade: ample shopping and restaurants.
Great, friendly personable staff; but one stands out in particular: David! He was our first impression of the hotel at checkin.
5-star service throughout our stay. After Sunday's Marathon, we cleaned up and went to eat, only to come back to find a complimentary gourmet cheese and cracker platter with (2) bottles of Evian and a hand written note congratulating us on our race! VERY NICE!

We stayed for 3 nights - the bedroom was good size with walk-in wardrobe and safe although the bathroom was a little small - the toilet rather close to the shower cubicle. One really good thing was that although the room had air conditioning you could turn this off and open the window.

Hotel in a good location as only a short walk to main shopping streets and beach.

The room we stayed in was opposite the lifts and we could clearly hear the doors opening and closing and the lift bell ringing - rather disturbing at night.

Reception staff did not seem particularly knowledeable about the hotel's facilities nor did they display any sympathy or concern when we commented on checking out on the Sunday about the noise we suffered in our room on the Saturday night due to a party in the restaurant two floors above. Breakfast menu limited and expensive and staff service poor.

A charge payable for Internet access in the room of $9.95 a day which seems unnecessary and unacceptable in a hotel of this standard.

Room Tip: Not room 1608 or any other room close to the lifts.

This was definitely the best hotel that we stayed at on our recent trip to Los Angeles. As i work in real estate in Australia i'm always on the look out for superior customer service and people that stand out from the crowd. The staff at the Huntley hotel were amazing and I haven't seen anything like this for a number of years!

As we walked into the hotel (looking very basic in our sweat pants) David greeted us with a warm smile. As we were checking in he suggested that we had the option to upgrade our suite because I mentioned that we wanted a larger room (I also wanted to escape my husband's snoring. We ended up booking the Malibu suite which was perfect, clean and spacious. David was extremely professional and I actually thought that he owned part of the hotel as he seemed to be very deddicated to his role.

Zane from room service was amazing as i ordered endless pots of hot water because I enjoyed driking tea each night. He was always very courteous and extremely polite. He definitely stood out as a person who wanted to please you and ensure that you were comfortable. The only thing that i would suggest for this hotel is that the room service menu include more food and better quality in comparison to their competitors.

Each day when we walked back to our room we found that our room was cleaned impecciblly thankyou to Nemesia. She definitely went above and beyond and all the small things she did didn't go unnoticed for e,g arranging all my makeup perfectly in the bathroom, music upon entering etc. Her attention to detail was fantastic.

The foyer of this hotel is very beautiful and unique. When I open my own business I will definitely poach David, Zane and Nemesia to work for me....Be aware Huntley!!! :).

I cannot fault this hotel .......and this is coming from a person who is a perfectionist 24/7. A big thankyou to The Huntley...this was a great way to end our trip.

Santa Monica is a great way to start a USA holiday.the Huntley was nearly perfect .best beds and pillows ever but just ask to be away from noisy lift.amazing shopping.we stayed 2 nights to get over jetlag before Disney etc and it worked nicely.great shower pressure too.

I stayed at the Huntley about five years ago, and because of a pleasant stay, I decided to return. I must say, it was a very disappointing experience. I was in LA for business for ten days. Being a seasoned traveller, the hotels I regularly stay at always make a point of making my long stays pleasant, staff go above and beyond expectations to ensure my experience is comfortable and memorable, making sure I become a loyal customer. This hotel banks on it's proximity to the beach as the sole reason to consider a stay, the luxurious image it projects on it's website is not at all the reality.

The Rooms
Are dated and not well maintained. Stains on the walls, cracked shower doors, towel hooks that are not properly secured to the walls. Beds are comfortable enough, yet lighting is poor and the interiors are of low quality. Drinking water is not complimentary, whereas any good hotel does offer that amenity.

The Staff and Service
This was a mixed bag. The only pleasant staff members were the bellboys. The front desk was unfriendly and never went out of their way to help- they were cold and aloof, verging on rude. They never smile. They did not ask how my stay was upon check out. When I needed a converter for my laptop, they simply said they did not have any, and did not offer any solutions. When I requested they send my bill up to my room, they said they did not offer that service anymore. When I called ten minutes ahead for my car to be brought up by the valet service, on several occasions, it was not there when I was ready to leave. Room service was OK, but when I called ahead to have breakfast ready for me due to time constraints, either the order was incorrect, or not ready at all. The concierge did not have any idea what Matsuhisa was when I wanted to make a reservation, one of the most well known, iconic japanese restaurants in the city.

The Penthouse
Weekends staying at this hotel are tedious. The crowd: not very cool. The music plays until very late. The elevators are jam packed with party goers, and no privileges are given to the hotel guests. Breakfast at this restaurant is average. Service is not elevated and the maitre d' seemed inexperienced.

The Huntley is not luxurious, nor elegant, and not even close to being cool. Thoughtful, elevated, consistent, and pleasant service can make up for a lot. The lack of service and the quality of the staff certainly did nothing to improve my impression of this dated and unmemorable hotel.

The only plus is the location.

We stayed here twice in fall 2012. October and November.
Both times, we had a lovely room, stunning decor. Comfortable, spacious rooms.
Highly recommended.
Coffee downstairs is a bit pricey, but ok.
Walking distance to Starbucks!
I also loved the gym - there's lemon water, fresh fruit. Nice facility. CLEAN!
The rooftop bar was great for post-work drinks/ meeting friends. Nice atmosphere with a beautiful sunset over the water.
We will stay here again. It is really so much nicer than any "chain-hotel" in the area.
Highly recommended.
