“Great budget hotel in great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

We had a great stay. The hotel in located in front of Santa Monica Beach and walking distance to the Promenade and various cafés and design stores at Main St.
The service is basic, there is no breakfast, and the reception is basic too, but the room is comfortable and clean.

If you are looking for a hotel under USD 150, this is a great choice. Just expect a comfortable and clean room and a nice location, Santa Monica will do the rest!

This hotel was just up re hill from the beach (min walk) amazing views .. Walking distance to the shops and night life (about a 7-10 min walk ish) perfectly fine in the day light a little sketchy at night but the actual hotel is not sketchy at all. One thing to mention is the shower head is extremely low so if your above 5'2" you'll probably be a little uncomfortable, I'm 5'1" so I was just fine. Also parking was $17 per day which I thought was a little pricy but could very well be the norm in this area. Lastly cell phone service is almost non existent in the rooms. All in all satisfied with the place!

We spent the last night night of a 3 week US holiday at the Bayside. We loved the hotel and certainly had no intention of paying the exorbitant rates on most of the other Santa Monica beachside hotels. Sure the hotel is of an older style but being just one street back from the beach is a major plus and the ocean view rooms all have great views. The rooms were clean, light and very comfortable. Service from reception was very helpful and friendly. We'd have no hesitation in staying here again.

We booked with this hotel due to it's pets allowance. (we have 2 dogs)
We ended up leaving our dogs at a friends place in Santa Monica, and stayed here anyway.
We found it to be very inviting. The location is PERFECT! It was quiet, very clean and very comfortable. The staff was very friendly.
I do have one suggestion, with so many people using C-Paps for sleeping, that there be
easier plug ins for the c-pap appliances, (my husband and I both have C-paps) we had to move the bed away from the wall to get to the plug, and my husband hurt his back doing it.)
But, Loved the hotel and its ambiance.

Stayed here this week, got a room with 2 doubles, maybe a better word is closet with 2 doubles.
Really nothing good to say about the check in, no personality, really wasn't helpful by any means. Extremely small rooms, I don't know the square footage but I'd put it at 180 sf. Not a place for 2 people to stay, absolutely no room to move.
Bathroom was tiny with a very odd area for storage, safe and fridge. No real rhyme or reason to it and no shelves for storage for setting up deodorant, toothpaste and such.
The rooms are fairly clean but this is an old building that has been painted over many times.
It's pretty close to the water but it is right on the street so you'll hear everything, we didn't get a good nights rest here. It may be one of the cheaper options in the neighborhood but you definitely get what you pay for here.
I'll be in Santa Monica again soon and I'll be looking elsewhere for sure.

I'll start with the few positives of this hotel: location...very close to the shore, 20 minute walk to Venice Beach, walking distance to shops at 3rd Ave, comfy bed.

But the negatives far outweigh the positives here at Bayside (especially for the price of the room). The first floor was extremely noisy from above and beside us and the hotel wasn't close to full. Others have noted the thinness of the walls and it's no exaggeration, water running from above is very noisy. Speaking of water, the shower was terrible. It took forever for the temperature to adjust so was nearly impossible to get at a good spot and it would suddenly get extremely hot from others flushing their toilets around us! The WIFI is completely useless. It makes you log in on your phone and tablet every time you try and access it and when it does log in it's terribly slow. Plus, at least with Verizon, you have to go outside to get any sort of service. A couple of little things would have made a difference, too. There wasn't a plug in the bedroom accessible without moving furniture or unplugging something and even then it was impossible to have your phone charging on the nightstand. Finally, the TV was unwatchable from the bed. It was a flat screen that you couldn't move or swivel from the wall. We opted to move the entire bed about 4 feet over to be able to watch something (mostly blocking the doorway to the kitchen area).

All in all, this place is not worth the price of the room...keep searching.

We were on our way home from New Zealand and due to the Sandy Storm in the East coast...we were delayed for 3 days. Bayside Hotel was recommended to us and it was worth the stop! Great location and friendly team.
