This charming hotel is a gem right on Ocean Blvd. in Santa Monica. Our family of 4 (parents and two teens, ages 16 and 19) absolutely loved our 4 day/3 night stay at the Georgian. We appreciated the quick and courteous service by all staff. The valet was swift and always attentive, the front desk so friendly and helpful with general information, and the servers accomodating. It is an historic hotel of a smaller scale, completely refurbished to a polished level. The art deco elements are well-preserved and there is a lovely display of photographs in the lobby area that tell a story of earlier years of the hotel and surrounding area. The location is superb, as you can walk directly to the beach and Santa Monica pier, or you can walk a couple of blocks in the other direction to the promenade shopping. We were able to visit a number of LA sights quite easily from here, including Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive. We also enjoyed strolling the promenade, listening to the street musicians and doing a little more moderate scale shopping (e.g., at Macy's). With the heat wave, however, we mostly toured the beaches and enjoyed cooling off on the hotel veranda, a most unique feature! As some travelers have noted, yes there are homeless folks in the parks and public areas near this hotel. This is not different from many major cities, unfortunately. There is no special danger in this, other than one's own emotional discomfort with seeing this sort of vulnerability up close. The vast majority of folks on the streets are other tourists and families enjoying the sights. The Georgian is a fantastic place to stay in LA if you want a charming hotel with a more intimate atmosphere and easy access to the beaches.
