My boyfriend and I stayed at the Georgian for 6 nights at the end of August. My first impression of the hotel were how nice it looked on the outside, a lovely torqiouse colour with contrasting gold features. The verandah looked lovely also.
We were very lucky to get a really good deal at this hotel through British Airways. We paid £672 (approx $1200) for 6 nights in a city view room, which was much cheaper than what the Georgian website had quoted us, plus it included a conitinental breakfast. So for that we were very grateful, as although this is a lovely hotel, I don't think I could justify having paid the price the hotel wanted for it.
The location of the Georgian is brilliant. It was so nice being so close to the beach, and only a couple of short blocks away from 3rd St. Promenade.
Many have commented on the art deco theme of the hotel. I personally loved it, and didn't think the hotel looked old or shabby in any way at all. We had no problems whatsoever with the lifts, never had to wait long. Loved how retro they were. They even have coat pegs for some reason!
Although our room was very small, the decor is lovely and the bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in. The room had a sweet little coffee maker which was nice, an iron and ironing board, and a pile of magazines on the desk for you to read. The closet was nice and big, plus there are drawers in the armoire so there is plenty of space to keep clothes. The bathroom, albeit small, was fully functional and in my opinion did not need any updating. My only complaint is that the glass shelf in the bathroom is fairly small so there is not that much room to keep toiletries and/ or make-up.
Breakfast on the verandah was wonderful, you just can’t beat the view. The continental includes a nice big plate of fresh fruit (see picture) a bagel, toast or English muffin, and a hot or cold drink. This always kept us going until lunchtime.
What I really liked about the Georgian is that its small, so it has a nice personal feel. They really make you feel at home. The staff at reception was always helpful when we asked for directions, etc. You're allowed 15 minutes of complimentary internet access per day, then it was $5 for half an hour which is very reasonable. We loved how they put a newspaper by your door every morning, and the complimentary apples at reception.

It is said that there are so many homeless people in Santa Monica, sleeping on the beach and in Palisades Park. However, they never bother anyone and we didn't feel at all threatened by them.

All in all this hotel is a lovely, sweet property; my only real complaint is that the prices are so high considering it doesn't even have a pool. However, all the hotels in Santa Monica are pricey, so bearing that in mind this is probably the nicest hotel in Santa Monica that you can get for that price.

After reading the reviews I took the punt and booked 4 nights in an ocean-view suite early August. A little pricey at about $280/n + tax. Self, wife and a 1 yr old - also booked a second room for parents in-law who were our travel companions.
Georgian was as quirky as other reviewers made out, renovated from the 30's but not near modern, so expect to put up with a few missing mod-cons. The "old" elevator works if you close the door - not hard to remember. Breakfast (included by voucher) on the balcony was as good as it gets. Just be aware to have 20 minutes to spare in case of wait for table, especially close to finishing time.
Front desk manager was worse then useless at check-in. Requested early check-in well in advance and got non-committal reassurance and after 14 hour flight from Australia were forced to wait (very jet-lagged) 4 hours for one room, the other still wasn't ready for another 2 hours, then wasn't even on the same floor.
Odd thing happened to in-laws: got worse housekeeping after leaving a tip than when they forgot on first night!
Position is great, but lack of room balcony meant the views were wasted. Food in r'rant next door (they do room service menu) great.
Overall I'd say it was a lovely place to stay, but next time I'll go to the Holiday Inn (or whatever) close to 3rd St. But if you have to visit L.A. then Santa Monica is the place to stay.

We just returned from a 2 night stay at The Georgian Hotel. Our city view suite on the 8th floor provided us a view of the ocean, mountains and the city of Santa Monica. It was very spacious and comfortable; two rooms--one with a king size bed, a large living room area, and a double-entry bathroom containing two sinks. The staff was friendly and helpful, the drinks on the terrace watching the sunset were great (although the noise level is very high because of the buses going by constantly), valet parking service was always prompt, and breakfast was yummy, served with a smile. We had the suite, breakfast and valet parking all for less than the cost of a dinky hotel room in some of the more pricey hotels---none of which have the character and charm of The Georgian. It truly is a gem!

I liked the look of this Hotel and read good reviews before i paid an extortionate amount of money to stay here for 2 nights in August at($296/night). The Hotel was advertised as full of character which to a certain extent it had, however the building and its internal fabric are too old. The bathroom tiles, lighting, are still original art deco, and so are many of the fixtures and fittings, whilst this maybe authentic it looks decidedly shabby.
Dont be conned by thinking you are getting an Ocean view as a good deal, the noise from the traffic outside is horendous, you will be better off at the side or back of the hotel where rooms are quiter. None of the rooms are double glazed so some of the rooms can be drafty as well as noisy. Car parking is extra at $15/ night. The only positive thing i can say about the hotel is that it is idealy situated for Santa Monica Pier and 3rd Street Promenade, but my honest opinion is that you can get a better Hotel in the same location for less money. Staff where helpful.

Very pleased that we chose the Georgian - having read reviews here. Booked a city view suite for us (2 adults & teenage son). Huge rooms, quiet, very clean, good quality furniture - comfy bed!
Staff exceptionally helpful and pleasant.
