My boyfriend and I stayed at the Georgian for 6 nights at the end of August. My first impression of the hotel were how nice it looked on the outside, a lovely torqiouse colour with contrasting gold features. The verandah looked lovely also.
We were very lucky to get a really good deal at this hotel through British Airways. We paid £672 (approx $1200) for 6 nights in a city view room, which was much cheaper than what the Georgian website had quoted us, plus it included a conitinental breakfast. So for that we were very grateful, as although this is a lovely hotel, I don't think I could justify having paid the price the hotel wanted for it.
The location of the Georgian is brilliant. It was so nice being so close to the beach, and only a couple of short blocks away from 3rd St. Promenade.
Many have commented on the art deco theme of the hotel. I personally loved it, and didn't think the hotel looked old or shabby in any way at all. We had no problems whatsoever with the lifts, never had to wait long. Loved how retro they were. They even have coat pegs for some reason!
Although our room was very small, the decor is lovely and the bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in. The room had a sweet little coffee maker which was nice, an iron and ironing board, and a pile of magazines on the desk for you to read. The closet was nice and big, plus there are drawers in the armoire so there is plenty of space to keep clothes. The bathroom, albeit small, was fully functional and in my opinion did not need any updating. My only complaint is that the glass shelf in the bathroom is fairly small so there is not that much room to keep toiletries and/ or make-up.
Breakfast on the verandah was wonderful, you just can’t beat the view. The continental includes a nice big plate of fresh fruit (see picture) a bagel, toast or English muffin, and a hot or cold drink. This always kept us going until lunchtime.
What I really liked about the Georgian is that its small, so it has a nice personal feel. They really make you feel at home. The staff at reception was always helpful when we asked for directions, etc. You're allowed 15 minutes of complimentary internet access per day, then it was $5 for half an hour which is very reasonable. We loved how they put a newspaper by your door every morning, and the complimentary apples at reception.
It is said that there are so many homeless people in Santa Monica, sleeping on the beach and in Palisades Park. However, they never bother anyone and we didn't feel at all threatened by them.
All in all this hotel is a lovely, sweet property; my only real complaint is that the prices are so high considering it doesn't even have a pool. However, all the hotels in Santa Monica are pricey, so bearing that in mind this is probably the nicest hotel in Santa Monica that you can get for that price.
