“I cannot wait to stay here again!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2014

Not only was the hotel nostalgic and clean! The food and locale were also great! What made our stay one of the best ever, was the service! Mehra, Placida, Ruben and every other staff member we passed went out of their way to greet us, help us and make sure we had everything we needed! Those simple little extras make such a difference! They made US feel very special and important! THANK YOU for a wonderful stay! WE will be back!

Room Tip: We stayed in an ocean view king suite and it was roomy enough for 5!

We spent three nights at The Georgian Hotel from Valentine's Day to President's Day, and truly enjoyed it. The location is prime if the Santa Monica beach, Pier or nearby scene is appealing. The staff was unrelentingly charming. From the woman who greeted us repeatedly as we headed into and out of the hotel, the valets who ran for our car, to the front desk staff to those who waited tables on the lovely veranda - there were lots of smiles, and more than the usual level of care.

The hotel is quirky (the preferred term is "boutique") and the rooms are modest in scale, but we found our standard room with a Queen bed comfortable for a romantic stay. The bathroom had a tub with a shower, and a single sink. That said, the bathroom was very clean and an overhead heat lamp turned a cool space cozy in a few moments. With fabulous SoCal weather all around, we were mostly out and about. But if a great trip means to you a huge room and a spa like bathroom, then the Georgian may not be for you.

Perhaps the single downside to our room, as others have noted, was that noises in the hallway and the adjacent rooms were quite easy to hear even with our room door properly closed. We had some very social women staying near us Friday and Saturday night, and while we were aware of their presence, particularly as they headed out for the evening, it was never a problem. Truly noisy neighbors, though, could be an issue that would require some action.

Overall: this is a nice place - and we'll gladly stay here again.

What a cool hotel. I was out in LA for Valentine's weekend and wanted to stay somewhere in Santa Monica near the water. I booked my trip last minute, so all the good hotels in the area were incredibly expensive (over $600/night), so I decided to try out the Georgian. Very glad I did. The hotel is a throwback to the 20s, with some fantastic modern touches. The rooms are clean and very comfortable…and fairly quiet given its location. Overall, a great place to stay in the heart of the action in Santa Monica.

Couple small drawbacks:

1. The prevalence of homeless people that have a tendency to bother the guests on the front patio. Can't blame the hotel for the city's homeless problem, but the hotel could do a better job "shooing" them away from their guests.
2. The bathroom isn't updated. Now, I get the whole "retro" thing, but the tub was likely installed in the 80s and never updated. Not a huge deal, but something worth noting.

Other than that, very helpful and thoughtful staff…and overall, a very cool hotel.

Room Tip: Get a high floor.

Dear rickydow1,

Thank you for "trying" The Georgian, we too are glad that you did! It is nice to know that some of our original touches are still cool - we are very proud of our First Lady of Santa Monica.

Will we be welcoming you for Valentines 2015?

Kind Regards,

Laura W.

Stayed at the hotel for 2 nights in January. The location is just amazing, within a stone throw from the ocean. Breakfasts were great both in terms of food and amazing views from the porch. The room was clean and nice, though a bit dark (well, I guess it's a part of that famous vintage flavor). Loved the old-style elevators :) And I have to compliment the service as I had a post-stay request which was accommodated very promptly.

The location is the best attribute - being near the promenade, shopping, across the water and pier. The bathroom with its tiles and old Hollywood appeal was unique, but not quite held together. From what I remember, the tub looked a bit dirty and definitely could not be used for a bath, the color of the tiles was nice but I felt cramped as I tried to get ready for the night. More charming than utilitarian.

To be honest, the prices are sky-high for what is offered (let alone the overnight parking). The lamps in the room don't quite light up the space. I might sound harsh, but the hotel is also a four-star hotel, and there just didn't seem to be quite much of a difference to two-star hotels with its rough duvet, dusty remote, stained carpet. Though the colors were pretty inside the room, there was no balcony to see the beach, which is the point of having a beach-side room. Also, there was a sort of old smell, which someone might appreciate more than I did.

The single thing this hotel missed that lower starred hotels do have is a sense of coziness that allows the visitors to relax, feel at home. Even if the allure is the hotel's history, it is still a hotel and I want to feel like I'm sleeping in a hotel, not a museum. Just a bit more attention to detail would shift that dramatically. When I'm in the area, I don't think I would choose to stay here again, but I'm glad to have had the experience.

We stayed in the Georgian for one night on the way to San Diego. Let's start with where it is; just off the beach in the middle of Santa Monica with incredible views across the beach and out to the Pacific.

The hotel is lovely. It is described on its website as being relatively old, yet it doesn't feel it in a bad way at all. The only way it feels aged is the elegance that it maintains from a different era! The rooms are well appointed and comfortable - we had a room at the front on a high floor and views were to die for!

We will certainly be staying there again if we get the chance!

Staying at the Georgian hotel is quite an experience. My family and I stayed in the Clark Gable Suite for 4 nights over the New Years period and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was brilliant. Spacious and very clean upon arrival. Had no problem requesting more pillows upon arrival. They could have placed a few more milk and sugar sachets on the drink making counter though. It would have also been nice to have had proper milk sachets/creamers rather than the powered variation. Back to the more substantial things, the view was stunning, looking straight over the Santa Monica pier was really nice. A brilliant place to take in the sunset and sunrise. Staff were very helpful throughout our stay. Concierge organised our Universal Studios tickets for us which was brilliant, made sure all our tickets were printed for us etc. Breakfast was very good, there is a lack of tables so you may have to wait for a short while, but the breakfast is worth the wait. Hopefully they can use the speakeasy in the future to accomodate more people for Breakfast etc. In regards to staying at the Georgian being an experience, it really is. From the old elevators, to the speakeasy downstairs, the hotel is fascinating. This hotel has a lot of history indeed. The location is also brilliant. Minutes walk to Santa Monica pier and a very short walk to 3rd Street which is nice to walk around at night. Lots of shops and restaurants right around the corner from this hotel. Overall I would say that my stay here was very good. It is certainly not your conventional hotel, its very unique indeed. I would definitely stay here again when in Santa Monica.
