We stayed in this place for a few nights based on recommendations reviewed on this page. The welcome was pleasant, the valet service was great, the location is perfect for Santa Monica, very convenient and lovely.

While we got a room upstairs as requested, in our efforts to have some quiet time, we still had plenty of street noises and were right next to a fan and recycling bin that were both very loud.

The veranda is quite lovely and has a great view of the ocean and the Santa Monica pier area as mentioned. In our attempts to order a drink there, however, the bartender was extremely rude as he told us they did not have our two choices of drinks and he snapped that we only could get two others that were quite unappealing to us. We did have breakfast there early one morning (it does get very crowded by mid-morning and late afternoon), and the breakfast was fine, service rushed but pleasant.

The room was clean and nice, the bed was comfortable, the location was perfect for getting around Santa Monica, so we would recommend this one overall.

We stayed here for two nights and all and all everything was ok with this hotel. The positives first: 1) the location is by far the best you can find in Santa Monica (close to shopping, close to the beach and easy access to beverly hills etc.); and 2) the veranda is nice place to eat.

But I found there to be a few negative things too: 1) the price is a little bit too high compared to the quality of the hotel - you pay extra for location and location only, and 2) there are some problems with service (might be a bit on the slow side and not all speak english too well).

I found our room to be nice but nothing extraordinary. I am a bit torn with this hotel: next time I would first check out other hotels but could stay here again too if the location would be an issue.

We selected The Georgian based on the reviews here on TripAdvisor, and because the hotel seemed to be one of the better values in the Santa Monica area. We tend to like smaller, quirkier boutique hotels when we travel. We were not disappointed.

The only glitch in our stay occurred during the check-in process. We arrived before the 3 pm check-in time, and our room was not ready. We were told to return at 3. That was fine-- we spent some time walking around town and came back a bit after 3. Our room still was not ready. The desk clerk estimated another 30 minutes or so. We told her this wasn't acceptable, as we had to shower and leave for an early evening appointment. She made a few calls and said that they would rush the cleaning of our room, and it would be about 10 minutes. 20 minutes later, we were in our room, and they had given us a coupon for a free drink on the veranda to compensate us for the late check-in. All was forgiven.

The room itself was not huge, but larger than expected for an older hotel. Nice art deco design, immaculate bathroom stocked with Aveda products. Great view of Malibu, too. We booked the bed & breakfast package, which included parking and a full breakfast on the veranda each morning. It was great sitting outside and watching the world go by each morning, and coming back for a nightcap in the evenings. The hotel is very well located, a short walk to the pier, shopping and other points of interest. Service, while not always the most competent, was friendly. They tried hard to please.

All in all, we enjoyed our stay immensely, and would return to The Georgian when in the area. We found the place extremely charming, and a great alternative to generic, chain hotels.

Stayed at the Georgian for three nights on a recent trip up the coast of California. The location is superb, the veranda for breakfast, overlooking the ocean is a memorable way to start each day. Our room, a standard, was comfy, with the cleanest bathroom I've almost ever seen! Nice Aveda products.
It was also interesting to read about the history of the hotel and to note how lovingly it has been refurbished. Loved it!

We have just returned from 7 nights at this hotel and loved it! Staff were helpful and friendly and had no problems whatsoever. The rooms were clean and the beds the most comfortable we have ever slept in whilst away. The terrace is great to return 'home' to after exploring during the day and you can watch the sun go down over the sea as well as people watch. Just round the corner is 3rd St promenade which is great for evening meals and shopping. There are also street entertainers which adds to the lively atmosphere. Walk to the end of 3rd St Promenade and turn right to find a restaurant called P. F. Changs. The food, surroundings and price are amazing here. For breakfast, if you choose not to eat at the hotel, go to Broadway deli (left out the hotel, left again and keep going until you see it on the left). If you are sight seeing without a car as we were, the bus service is frequent and very convenient. Go see the lovely ladies across the road from the hotel at the tourist info centre and they will fill you in on what you need to see and how to get there. Bus stops are just along from the hotel and you will see every type of person on them!!! Be warned, they only have 2 speeds. Stationary and foot to the boards, the roads are not terrific (earthquakes) and your bottom will feel every bump. The beaches are huge expanses of white sand not at all crowded and just lovely. There are a few homeless people kicking about around the hotel, but they do not bother you at all. All in all good time and great hotel with loads of character. Thank you Amy on reception for the big smile after a long trip from the Uk!
