“Great for a stopover”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

We stayed for 2 nights on our way home to break the trip from the East Coast to Australia.
Room on the smallish side when you have 4 people, 4 suitcases plus hand luggage. Bed was comfortable. Parking is underground. Ihop next door. Santa Monica Pier a few blocks away - too far to walk. Drive yourself or the hotel offers a shuttle bus service. There is also the local Blue Bus you can use. Shopping district a drive away. Wi-fi was good. You could open the windows to allow fresh air in.

We've just spent two nights here - the last two nights of our Route 66 road trip, and out of the ten hotels we've stayed in, these have been the most comfortable beds! The worst were at The Tropicana in Las Vegas! I didn't put it in my review as these things are relative and my son actually preferred the beds there, but this bed is like a cloud and the best thing about this hotel! We've had some amazing views on our trip, but our room here just has a view of the building across the road. The location is good though, fairly near the beach, shops and restaurants. Would definitely stay here again.

The hotel is conveniently located 20 blocks from the ocean and along with a friendly staff and free underground parking, that's all this hotel has to offer. Head a couple of blocks the other direction and you'll find a seedier part of town. Santa Monica has alot of bums on every corner, bench, park and sidewalk. A real tourist turn-off. For the $152 plus tax we paid each night for 6 nights, our king size room was the smallest room we've ever stayed in and that includes our European and Asian vacation. Our bed was standard, nothing special there either. There was far too much furniture that did not fit the room and we were constantly crashing into it and each other. The wrap around balcony is not an amenity. It's a hindrance since we felt uncomfortable opening the drapes or the sliding glass door because there was always someone walking by our 4th floor window. Two mornings we were awakened by small children running down the hall while yelling. For a "plus" designation this hotel offers nothing but a bedroom. Their is no continental breakfast because they are attached to IHOP which means on average $30 plus dollars each morning for breakfast (for 2 adults) Last, we told the staff our AC/Fan was making some loud noises. Not sure what if anything was done but it quite completely the very last night of our stay (which was reported to the front desk). The last night was miserable since we were fearful of leaving the slider open and had no a/c / fan to circulate air. It's a nice place but I don't think it was worth the money.

Room Tip: Insist on looking at your room before you agree to take it.

We came up from Irvine, CA (53 miles) to visit friends for one night. This hotel is very central to everything you need to see on the Westside of L.A. It is near Brentwood, Westwood, Santa Monica, 3rd Street Promenade and the beaches. We like to hike/walk and workout a lot so being 2 miles from all these places was very convenient. It was not necessary to drive. We just parked our car at the hotel (quite a tight underground fit!) and avoided the hassles and expense of driving. WiFi worked super. Fridge was super-cold. Beds were very comfortable. We especially liked that we could open our window and let in the cool marine/ocean air at night. Hotel staff was very friendly and eager to provide service and information. The gym needs a refurbishing of equipment as some machines (e.g. universal) are old and difficult to figure out how to operate. Be sure to eat at The Bistro at 2301 Santa Monica Blvd (3 blocks walk). Excellent food and ambience and they have live piano music 7 days per week. Overall, this hotel visit was a very good experience and location for us.

We stayed at the Best Western Plus Santa Monica for two nights prior to our Mexican Riviera cruise. The location is great. The bus stops out in front and costs $1. You can take the bus to both Venice Beach or the Santa Monica Pier. We checked out both areas using the bus. Also check out the 3rd Street Promenade which is just a short walk from the Santa Monica beach area. There are street entertainers, shops and lots of restaurants. The hotel was very clean and our rate was $134 per night. When you check in they give you a discount coupon for the IHOP next door. We ate there and it was delicious.

The rooms were really nice ! The area was ok but considering the price it was a total bargin! It was only 14 minutes away from LAX and 9 minutes from Hermosa beach was really cool ! We went on Labor Day and they had a street fair and a lot of pubs that had the game on ! There was live music and the crowd was very calm ! I enjoyed my entire experience ! I would use this hotel again definately !
