“Great location and great price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

My husband and I decided we would travel to LA and the drive from there to Vegas for our 1 year anniversary. Knowing we would be spending ALOT of money we needed a hotel which was based in Santa Monica and a great price, but in the centre of everything. This hotel was perfect! We were able to have a parking space on arrival and the staff were SOOO friendly! We arrived around 7pm and were hungry, they gave us a map of Santa Monica and told us where the best places to eat where. Circling great tourist attractions along the way we managed to get dinner and sight see all at the same time. The room was so much better then we expected, clean, spacious, comfortable and we had a huge TV in there too. The wasn't any air con in our room though just a fan, but it was ok. The bathroom was ok a swell. We had a shower, sink and toilet. However I must say the toilet roll was very thin (as a women you notice these things!) so be prepared. Towels were provided along with soaps. The only thing I would say that let's it down is the building work across the road. It's not the hotels fault, it simply is that as soon as it hits 7am, it gets really loud outside your window and pretty much wakes you up. The location is great as you can walk to the pier and are not far from Venice beach.

The Seaview is a great little place. Each room has its own character and furnishings. Some rooms have a kitchenette which could really save a lot of money over a longer Santa Monica stay. The place is less than half most of the other hotels along Ocean Ave and is only 1 block from the beach, not far from Santa Monica Pier, etc. Friendly front desk, great service, clean. NOISY, with lots of urban noise from Ocean Ave especially (and, currently, an epic construction project going on right across the street) so if you are a light sleeper, bring earplugs. Also, if you like in-room coffee, bring your own coffee pot. Other amenities missing: drinking cups, shampoo, soap (there is soap, but it wasn't very good). The outside deck is a great place to sit and hang out. Enjoy the amazing savings of this place, surrounded by hotels with rooms for $450 and up. If you are going to Santa Monica to get out to the beach, walk around the town, drive into LA and generally be active, this is a great place to stay.

We arrived in Santa Monica as part of our Route 66 tour and hadn't prebooked a room. We were lucky to get the last room here due to a cancellation. Room 1 was right by the front desk but was lovely and quiet and we didn't hear much in the way of people passing the room. The room itself was big and spacious and very comfortable. Bathroom was small but clean. We found the staff to be very helpful. Location is unbeatable, within walking distance to everything the area has to offer. In addition the lovely decking area outside was a great place to sit and enjoy a drink after coming back from an evening out. Another big perk is the free parking! Loved it so much here that we actually decided to stay for another night, and i could quite happily have stayed much longer than that!

I booked this room back in January for the GLOW event in Santa Monica last night. The room was $88...that's right $88. Two blocks from the beach and right in the middle of the event. Fun little deck, we brought some wine and cheese and enjoyed the view. Planning on going back again. Things to remember, take a towel, theirs are very small and we didn't have any shampoo. Really great little place. FREE PARKING!!!

Room Tip: If you can, take towels. The ones provided are super small.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2013

The first time we stayed in this hotel was in September 2010 and loved it. On our return to Santa Monica, in September 2013, we booked this hotel without hesitation based on our previous experience. We found the hotel even better this time round as the rooms had been refurbished.

I want to give it 5 stars but I realise there are some issues that some people may not be happy with. So here is a list of the Pros and Cons

Cons:

1. On a main road (as are many other, much more expensive hotels) - this, however, didn't bother us even though I'm a light sleeper.
2. Bathrooms need some updating - We found the bathrooms perfectly fine but others may want marble 5* bathrooms, in which case they will need to spend many more dollars.
3. Window lock in our room was a piece of wood you wedge between the window and the wall.

Pros:

1. Price! Very reasonable for Santa Monica.
2. Felt Safe here.
3. Big, clean, airy room.
4. One block away from the beach.
5. Location! This hotel is easy walking distance from the beach, the Pier, Main Street, 3rd Street Promenade and an easy drive from the airport. There are also bicycle rent stands nearby so you can cycle easily to Venice and beyond on the beach cycle path.
6. Free parking - you need a car when visiting the rest of LA wherever you stay.
7. Nice flowers all around the hotel.
8. Nice roof garden for sitting and chilling.
9. Friendly and helpful staff.
10. Free Wi-fi.
11. Unlike most hotels, the rooms are not exactly the same - although similar furniture and style, they are individually furnished.

Basically, we loved this hotel. Next time we are in Santa Monica we will definitely stay here again.

Seaview is so close to everything! The rooms are all decorated differently and some have better bathrooms than others and some have little kitchens whilst others do not however we found our room to be perfect and probably more room than some of the expensive hotels nearby. The gardens were magical and very well kept - our room was very clean and serviced by lovely housekeepers each day - the bed was extremely comfy. Rosa and David at reception were a wonderful help with any of our needs. The free WiFi was great and agree with others breakfast at the coffee shop next door is fabulous! The only noise we noticed was from the garbage trucks in the morning but we were up and about wanting to start our adventures so no problem and if you shut your bathroom door you don't hear much anyway. Only one thing was that we had a little refrigerator but no glasses were supplied in our room - I am sure though if we had asked that Rosa or David would have supplied a couple for us. We felt we had won a prize as the accommodation cost was so reasonable much less than any of the fancy places and Seaview has much more of a personality than the other very much more expensive choices. If we visit Santa Monica again we will definitely stay again - perfect holiday accommodation. Remember it is not 5 star but it is excellent value for money.

I absolutely love this place. The people at the front desk, the assistance with everything was so great! The restaurants and shops are close to everything. The coffee place next door has the best breakfast. Make sure to bring your walking shoes!

Room Tip: Bring your bicycle the beach is right there!
