“Good value place for a short stay.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

We stayed here for two nights at the end of our US trip. We chose the Seaview for value as the hotels in SM are so expensive! We read the reviews and considering the price we opted to stay here. We checked in late and as we had phoned ahead of time they kept the office open for us (I believe it is open until 10pm). We were helped to our room (upstairs, no lift) with our bags and also given a map and some tips on where to shop and get coffee.

Pros
-Location! Great place close to the beach and ten mins away from main shopping malls.
-Recently updated. Ikea-esque but bright.
-Beautiful grounds, full of flowers and with sun deck.
-Good, free wifi

Cons
-Could be cleaner, we did not want to use the kitchen really and the bathroom could do with a good update!
-Very noisy. We had a room by the road and even with the TV on the road noises could be explicitly heard. Bring ear plugs!
-Would be great if they had a little breakfast nook, maybe just some coffee/water and pastries to get the day going as not near a grocery store.

Regardless, as mentioned the Loews next door charged more per night for a basic stay than the Seaview cost for two nights. Given that, it is great value in an expensive part of town!

Room Tip: Away from the road.

At the time we stayed here they were building across the road and will be for another 6 months which meant we were woken up at 7am everyday with banging and drilling. It kinda didn’t matter to me as we wanted to be up and out visiting everything we needed to do. The beach is within spitting distance and the pier a short walk. The people that run this place are great, very friendly and will always give you help and guidance for the surrounding areas. The rooms are basic but always very clean and made up every day. There isn’t a local store to this place but that doesn’t really matter as there are plenty of places nearby if you have a car. Parking is scarce and it’s a first come first serve, but saying that we didn’t have any trouble parking. There is a person working 24/7, so if you need help someone is always around. Hollywood is only 15 miles up the road and very easy to get to as is Venice beach which is only 2 miles up the road. Plenty to do and see and no matter what the noise was I would go back again.

Room Tip: Chosse a room away from the main road

Loved this little motel - while it doesn't have ocean views, it is only a short walk to the beach down a little private lane. The exterior is pastel painted wood with white trim, with planter boxes filled with flowers and bright wooden lounge chairs on the deck. No pool, but plenty of sun (and the beach is so close anyway). My room was clean and well-decorated with modern fabric, bright paint and nice sheets. Super comfy bed. The kitchen was basic but had everything you would need to cater for yourself (including four gas burners in the stove) as well as a table and chairs. The bathroom was clean and I didn't notice any dirty grout or mould. You could stay here for several days and not feel at all cramped - it was almost like a mini-apartment (Ikea style). Next door is Cora's, who serve the best coffee I tasted in LA as well as having an interesting and original menu, full of great standards with some ethnic gems thrown in. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat. Rosa and Jeff at the front desk are helpful and will give you directions and advice. There's also a tourist info kiosk three blocks down Ocean Blvd on the same side of the road for any piece of info on Santa Monica and LA you could possibly need.

This property was brilliantly located in Santa Monica between downtown shopping areas, sightseeing and Venice Beach. Ask for a room away from the road. Rooms basic at best, which was fine. The bathroom could have been much cleaner and cleaners should wipe down walls and doors etc however I would stay here again. Located to restaurants and cafes and helpful managers. 5 min walk down hill to the beach, 10 min walk to Santa Monica Pier.

The only downside is that the walls are paper thin and you can hear very clearly conversation, etc, from the room next door. The wall heater is the culprit where the noise gets through.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the roadside of the hotel

We had a couple of nights here while staying in Los Angeles and were happy with our choice. We had a very cheerful check in and the guy was happy to explain the neighbourhood and show us where to go for food.

The motel is a little old, but still in good condition and has a nice retro feel. The rooms are fairly basic, but have comfy beds. No air con, but there was a room fan. Heat wasn't a problem during our trip. While the hotel felt safe, there are no in room safes and no double lock on the door. Free wifi is a bonus.

Location is great, a couple of minutes to the beach and the pier and a few more minutes to Main Street and this shops. We'd stay here again.

Room Tip: Some rooms have windows onto Ocean Drive. Light sleepers may want to request a room away from the ro...

Charming 1950's motel in a great location just a block from the beach. Rooms open up to a beautiful courtyard. The management are very friendly also. This place would be good for families, couples, or friends!

Room Tip: Each room is different, so I would suggest calling and talking to them. Room 18 is an upstairs corne...

Stayed here back in August 2012 for a week. It was one of the cheaper hotels in Santa Monica that had good reviews and was in a great location. You're literally a 2 minute walk to the beach and 5 minutes to the mall. Nestled in amongst beachside units, it's a safe hotel with a 1950's LA feel to it. Basic yet modern, refurbished room, it has the shower facilities, sink, fridge and tv you need. Would be luxury to have air con, but even when staying right in summer, you barely notice the heat! The hotel manager is super helpful, happy to give us suggestions on where to go and what to do. One of the more enjoyable hotels of our LA/Vegas/OC/San Fran trip.

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the main road - it can get quite noisy! Also ground floor rooms don't ha...
