“good hostel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2013

The location of the hostel is amazing, near from the beach, the pier of santa monica and the 3rd Street Promenade!!
The staff of the hostel is nice! The structure it's great, everything is full of color and fun! I stayed in a privative room for 3 people and was just great, we used the ladies bathroom in that floor, and it was clean and smelt good all the times!
For me the there was just one bad thing about this hostel: no elevator! I stayed there February, 2011, after visiting Las Vegas and San Francisco with my mom and sister so we had a lot of luggage and the room was in the 3rd or 4th floor! Thankfully the hostel always has some big, strong and nice men disposed to help!

I have stayed here a couple of times in the past and found it to be really good however I was a little disappointed this time round. Having said that, the location is outstanding and cannot be beaten. The 3rd street promenade is just around the corner as is the beach. There is plenty of places to eat ranging from $ - $$$$. The staff at the hostel are very helpful and friendly as are housekeeping etc. my only criticism would be that the bathrooms on the 3rd floor were consistently disgusting. Every day I found phlegm / hair in the sinks and blocked toilets. The showers were lukewarm. I tried a few different showers on a couple of different levels and they all appeared to be a similar temperature. Also just a tip - the hostel advertises a twenty percent discount for bike rental at Perry's. Go to sea mist bike rental (next to hot dog on a stick just near the pier) even without a discount it's way cheaper the guys that work the counter are super cool and really really helpful

Hostel is located in the heart of Santa Monica and just two blocks from the beach. Rooms are clean, spacious, and offer individual reading lights and outlets for each bed. Price is a little steep and breakfast wasn't great, hence only 4 out of 5.

Very good hostel. Very conveniently located and friendly staff are very helpful. Very quiet atmosphere when I was there. Bunks are very narrow and bathroom was up the hall but that wasn't a problem. When I was there there was a range of ages including older people and families as well as the usual backpackers. Hostel organises activities and entertainment but unfortunately when I was there it was cancelled.
I have visited twice in a last 10 years and the standard is maintained

I have stayed in hostel's throughout Europe and North America, including many other Hosteling International properties.

This hostel is one of the better ones in which I have stayed. The entire facility is very clean and modern. The staff were all very friendly. The hostel is in Santa Monica, which is a great location for shopping, and some nightlife. It is in a good neighbourhood, so we had no concerns with walking around at night. The hostel is walking distance to the Beaches and the Santa Monica Pier.

The rooms were well set up, with easily accessible, designated lockers for each bed. There are ample plug in's in the rooms, and the rooms and building are well set up in general.

The included breakfasts are pretty sad, but consistent with other hostels. But hey, it's free.

Fab location for exploring Santa Monica!! Walking distance from both the pier area and shopping! Rooms were nice and was a bonus that each bed had it's own light and outlets- a lot of hostels don't have this!! Would stay again :)

I had a pleasant stay here. The hostel is very nice on the inside and close to the Santa Monica Beach, the Pier, Santa Monica Place Mall, and Third Street Promenade. I don't think I could've gotten a hotel in such a good location for the price I payed. The staff at the front desk was also very friendly and helpful. Complaint: The bathroom. Not only do you have a communal bathroom, but they are inadequate. The shower water is cold and it barely spits out any water at all.
