“We had a delicious lunch!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2012

My husband and I had lunch here and were pleasantly surprised by the good food. This is a tiny restaurant that sits on a corner overlooking Santa Monica Boulevard and the Century City shopping mall. Even though Santa Monica is a very busy street, this restaurant sits just above it on the small street running parallel and it is very quiet and pleasant. There are about 8 small tables inside and several nice tables where you can sit outside. We ordered the $9 lunch special that included our choice of salad, small pizza and a soft drink. To our surprise, the waitress brought over a basket of delicious hot garlic rolls with a pasta dipping sauce to start. Our salads were very good and the barbecue chicken pizzas we had were wonderful, though there was so much food, so we could only eat half. Our drinks were refilled multiple times and the service was friendly and welcoming. The pizzas we saw going to other tables looked great. I will definitely go back to Johnnie's and recommend it to other people.

“Great prices and atmisphere, but food and service are horrible”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2011

From the time you are seated, it should not take 15 minutes for your server to introduce himself and offer drinks. We almost left, but we decided against it. I wished we had left. The spaghetti sauce had not cooked long enough. The garlic bread they served prior to the meal was a cold afterthought. After being served our meals, the waiter did not offer drink refills for close to 30 minutes. And this restaurant was only half-filled with customers.

I would not return to this restaurant even if they GAVE me half-ownership.

“Throwback that needs update.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2011

We stopped in the first place we saw due to sheer hunger thinking "New York and pizza" food would be great. Not! First impression should have stopped us at the door. The ground level carpet was stained. The upstairs eating area carpet was worse and the upstairs appeared to be a pass through for the restrooms.
I ordered the NY chopped salad which had very fresh lettuce, however the tomato wasn't even near red ripe that I searched to pick out. Some of the bread rolls were undercooked.
This place just appears to be an older run down restaurant in a prime location.

“Every time I go in this place the...”

Every time I go in this place the incredibly rude Arab waiters are more concerned with joking around with the staff and playing with their cell phones than providing decent service.

On top of that, the food is very mediocre.
