Michael's is a high-end restaurant that is walking distance from our apartment. It's the sort of place that you wear a blazer to if you're doing dinner. The food and the service is first-class with respect to dinner.
What my wife and I are more excited about is the way they remodeled the front portion of Michael's to entice visitors to their lounge. It's a cozy and inviting environment with $6 drinks and food.
The food they offer in the lounge isn't some sort of microwaved pizza. Instead, it comes from the same chef that designed the dinner menu and is top-drawer. Too many dishes to describe, but think everything from Tapas to (yes) designer pizza.
The house wine (both red and white) are notable, as is the Allagash beer they serve as the "house beer".
The wait staff pays close attention, yet isn't in your face every moment. Come back 2 or 3 times and they'll greet you as long-lost friends. Our favorite waitress even remembers what we prefer to drink and the kind of food we normally choose.
Fnally, the lounge environment fills up around 6pm but isn't too loud to think (like most other bars). It's very comfortable and varies from tall chairs around tables for 4 to a "living room" with couches and settees. The rooms fill up but there always seems to be one last place to sit when you get there.
From Friday night drinks to our anniversary dinner later this month, we love going to Michael's!
