“Brilliant place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

We stayed here for a couple of nights, had our room upgraded so we got a little terrace area as well. The room was a great size, tv, wardrobes, desk two armchairs, massive beds. The bathroom was a nice size. The terrace was nice to get some fresh air in the morning.

The location is great too, the area felt quite safe and we had a good walk round. Parking was secure although either the cars are huge or the spaces are small! Either way we managed.

Possibly the only gripes I could have were the wooden floors in the rooms, bit slippy when walking around and I could definitely hear someone in the room above/next to us stomping. Also the bathroom door, being a slide door had a tendency to bounce back open again if you closed it quickly. Minor details in an otherwise perfect stay, the décor is lovely and always looked clean. Staff were helpful and friendly too.

My husband and I spend five nights at the Ambrose Hotel and were very happy with our overall experience. Our room was fantastic - beds were comfortable and the room was very quiet; we didn't hear any noise from the hallways or outside. The breakfast was a nice touch. The complimentary shuttle was definitely one of the highlights of our stay there. The driver was very knowledgable about the local area and the service was prompt and efficient.

The hotel is a little bit of a walk from the main promenade/beach area, but in a quiet and safe area, so we weren't bothered by the bit of a distance to get down to the beach.

Overall, a lovely stay in Santa Monica!

My partner and I were traveling around the US for 3 weeks and this was the best hotel we stayed at.

The beds were big and comfy, TV services were great and best of all, a complimentary breakfast every morning which consisted of muffins, pastries, cereal, yoghurt, coffee, tea, bagels and strawberries.

They offer a free shuttle bus service around Santa Monica but we both decided to take the 15 - 20 min walk down to the beach which was really nice. There are also restaurants just around the corner - our favourite was Poquito Mas, which served tasty and fresh mexican food.

Another bonus is that a Wholefoods was also a very short walk away, so we were able to stock up and grab hot meals for dinner which we took back to our hotel room.

The staff were also really friendly and helpful and gave us lots of different options on how to get to places in LA to make sure it suited our needs. The fitness center was also really nice.

A great place - I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to stay in Santa Monica.

We wanted the beauty and convenience of Santa Monica in a nice, quiet location, but away from all the crowds. The Ambrose was a terrific find - complimentary wifi and underground parking in a wonderful location. The rooms are sleek and quiet - ours on the first floor had a nice balcony and was bright and very comfortable. We walked through the neighborhood, to the promenade and Santa Monica Pier - about 3 miles each way, and never saw anywhere we'd have rather been. The front desk people were friendly and helpful and the location was absolutely perfect - convenient to everywhere we needed to go, yet still far from the madding crowd. Would highly recommend The Ambrose and will definitely stay here on our next trip to LA.

Room Tip: First floor rooms only have sliding doors onto sunny balconies - a real plus.

I was recommended to the Ambrose Hotel by a stylish LA friend and I was totally delighted. The woman who checked us in in the afternoon was friendly and helpful so we started out on the right foot. The room was immaculate, very eco-friendly and I appreciated the Aveda bath products.
The attention to detail and the convenience of the West Side of LA made the Ambrose a great "find"!
Honestly, my favorite part was the complimentary breakfast! I have been in the hospitality and fine dining world for 30 years and I know food. The croissants and pastries were as good as ANYTHING i ever had in Paris! I was a very happy camper with hot Starbucks coffee, croissants, sticky buns and fresh sliced strawberries. You either do it right or you don't. Bravo Ambrose Hotel.

I stayed at the hotel for a week over Easter. I loved that the hotel offered free parking, free breakfast and free wifi. The location was also very good, easy to drive up and down the coast and quiet at night while not too far from the beach. I also enjoyed that the hotel was small and felt intimate and we were far from the Spring breaker madness. Their room service menu was very limited so when I was around for lunch or dinner, I opted to walk to places nearby or order delivery from restaurants they recommended. The breakfast room is a bit lacking in appropriate seating to eat but I thought the breakfast choices were adequate for being free and the items of good quality. They had toast, English Muffins, cereals, yogurt, delicious Danish, juices and coffee. Maybe even tea but I don't drink it so I didn't pay attention. The room was clean and comfortable and had everything needed. While there is no coffee maker, it is available in the lobby until 9.30 or 10 am daily. I had few interactions with the staff but they were all very friendly and professional. I would recommend this hotel for anyone. It is not your typical full service hotel so just know in advance what amenities and services they offer and which ones they don't so you can plan accordingly.

Room Tip: If you book a premier room, make sure to request a balcony or terrace. It is not guaranteed but you...
