My friend and I stayed for an entire week at the Embassy Hotel Apartments while we took a one week cutting course at the Vidal Sassoon Academy. I wasn't sure what to expect since the reviews were very mixed. Thankfully we had a great time! It's amazingly unique architecture and layout make you feel like you are living in Santa Monica and not just visiting. The neighborhood is cute and very safe (since I went on walks by myself at night and saw many other people out as well and all very friendly!) The building is old but in a very charming way. Great details and interesting rooms with old style touches that I love.

It's not the Fairmont Hotel so don't go expecting extra amenities or someone coddling you every minute of your visit. It's as though you are living in an apartment (we had the studio suite) so if you don't mind carrying up your own luggage (instead of paying a bellman) and if you don't mind parking your own car (instead of the $30/day plus tip to have it valet parked) than you should really enjoy this place.

Pros: great location, large studio apartment, charming architecture, incredibly nice hotel staff, unique, good price

Cons: A bit noisy (we ran the fan at night for the white noise which totally blocked out all noise)

  • Liked — It's uniqueness and location
  • Disliked — a bit noisy at night

This hotel is perfect for your stay. It is 3 blocks from Third street Promenade which is the place to be if you're not on the beach! Although the beach is so close too! Our room got a lovely sea breeze and was very comfortable. We chose a room which wasn't a suite so we didn't get a fridge which was the only downside. They give you a permit for parking in the streets round about. With all the hustle and bustle in LA it was great to come back to the peace and quite here.

  • Liked — Location
  • Disliked — The lift was tricky to negociate with suitcases!

The rooms were spacious and had tons of old world charm. The room was perfect and fit the makeup, hair and whole bridal party in the studio room. The old world charm were perfect for pictures. I absolutely loved everything! I would recommend this hotel especially if you have children since even the smallest room (which is not small by any means) has a full kitchen and dinning area.

My husband and I spent a week at the Embassy apartments the first week of June 2008. It was a little above our price range and I was a little hesitant after some of the poor reviews I had read, but I liked the look of the place and thought I'd take my chances.
I am so glad I did, it was everything I wanted. Walking into the foyer was a great first impression. The building is lovely and the gardens are a very nice extra touch. The studio apartment we had at the front of the hotel, room 310 was excellent. I felt like I was walking into a 1930's film set. It was quiet at all times and the location is fantastic. Walking distance to all of Santa Monic's beautiful sites, restaurants and shops. The staff were excellent, a big thank you to Josh and Brigetta who were friendly and helpful at all times. I highly recommend a stay and will definately be back. It is worth the money.

Beautiful beaches, enticing shops, and outstanding restaurants I discovered all within walking distance of Santa Monica's wonderfully charming Embassy Hotel. Friendly and helpful staff greeted my friend and I as we arrived at the hotel. We were escorted to our room and assisted in getting settled in, which included help in accessing the internet. The room was spacious and very clean, and the kitchen provided us with more than the basic amenities. The lobby, back courtyard and lush front grounds were the perfect places to read, draw, visit or just relax when we were not enjoying all of the nearby attractions. We so enjoyed our stay at the Embassy that we plan to return next summer. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a wonderful taste of the charming Santa Monica.
