My boyfriend and I traveled to SM in February over President’s Weekend as a quick four day getaway. Neither of us had ever been to the west coast, being that we are from the NY/NJ area, so we wanted to see as much as we could and have the best time possible while in California.
The Shore Hotel is the quintessential 'beach hotel' and is within minutes from the SM Pier, PCH and SM beaches. SH is also in walking distance to the 3rd Street Promenade (we took a nice walk to Starbucks every morning), outdoor mall, rooftop restaurants, shops, bars etc. We were also in walking distance to my boyfriend’s favorite clothing company ever, The Hundreds, which he was very pleased with!! The location could not have been any better! We took a few day trips into LA, Hollywood and Beverly Hills (about a 30 minute drive) and the entrances/exits to the freeway were very close in proximity to the hotel.
Walking into our room (on the fourth floor, ‘street view’) we were both very impressed with how clean and orderly the room looked. The design is simple yet pops with the right about of vibrant colors.
View: our balcony looked out into the street and across from us was the parking garage for the outdoor mall and the rooftop food court. Neither of us minded the view because we were able to sneak a peak of the sunrise every morning through the palm trees toward the end of the road. Also, it was fun to see the many people walking below going about their day. It was never overly noisy for us, the doors and curtains did a wonderful sound proof job because we were never bothered with excessive noise.
Bathroom: VERY clean and the design was stunning. Although there is a full glass partition between the bathroom and the bedroom, the motorized privacy screen covered the entire partition from top to bottom leaving ultimate privacy when needed. The shower was very relaxing; we both enjoyed the ‘rain-like’ shower head and the slanted shower bottom. There was more than enough counter space for our toiletries, too.
Robes: SO comfortable but tended to leave white fuzz on our clothes, so make sure you pack a lint roller if you decide to wear them! Haha
Bed: one of the most comfortable beds that we have slept in away from home. The sheets were very soft and warm, the pillows were a bit soft for my liking but we did not mind all that much.
iHome: docking station (we both have iPhones and an iPad) were able to dock/charge and play music!
TV: a nice flat screen that swiveled, there is a restriction on the sound levels (which is smart so that they are not so loud that a neighboring room can hear) only thing, there was not an option to rent movies. The WiFi was fast; we never had a problem logging on!
Business Center/Gym: We enjoyed the large iMac computers when we had to print our boarding passes and although we did not use the gym, we still went in and took a peek and it was very clean and had machines, weights, towels etc. We did not have a chance to use or enjoy the pool and hot tub but it always looked clean and there was always someone in the hot tub when we were downstairs so it must have been good!
Service: The staff at the Shore Hotel could not have been any nicer!! Whether it was the front desk or even the cleaning service, we were always being greeted with a ‘Hello’ and a smile. On our trip, my boyfriend had gotten sick and I called down to the front desk and they were able to tell me where the nearest CVS, Walgreens etc was.
Overall, this hotel is a MUST STAY. As a younger, mid-20s couple, we enjoyed and appreciated the young, modern, stylish look and feel of the Shore Hotel. We have planned another trip out to California in August and have ZERO doubt about where we are planning to stay. We cannot wait to come back!!
