OK there were some problems with getting the room ready, etc.
But in my many years of global hotel-staying, this is just the way it is -- everywhere. You call down to the lobby and if they fix it that's good. You move on.
That was the case at the Lowes. They staff may need a little more training -- but they seemed all to care and do their best.
We stayed at the most expensive corner suite on the top floor and it was stunning.
The view of the beach, ocean, and pier was perfect, Food was great. Loved the pool area.
No complaints.
This is a location hotel. An experience. There aren't that many in the world that fit that description. Keep an open mind, be cool and you'll have a good time. Look for problems and you'll find them. That my friends is the truth about traveling.
I will return -- and I'll stay in the same sweet suite.

Management must have read some of the earlier reviews about unfriendly service, because every staff member we encountered was friendly and helpful. When we were checking in, another clerk came over and complimented my wife's necklace. And so it went throughout our stay. Staff in the halls always said hello. The concierge had a great map of all the restaurants in walking distance.
The room was adequate, good sized, and a reasonable value (before Santa Monica's punitive 14% room tax). Thanks to a suggestion here, we joined Loew's club on line before reserving and got an upgrade, a welcome tray and choice of premium daily newspapers. We didn't see or smell any signs of dampness, but then we were on the 6th floor, well above the beach. We thought being that high we would have a good view, but found out that the 4th floor is the ground floor on the city side, so we looked at the roof next door. And why couldn't the bedsheet manage to cover the bottom two inches of the mattress?
The pricey breakfast buffet is pathetic. You're better off a quarter block south at the funky, cheerful sidewalk cafe (a tip from the reception staff).
The perfection of the service was marred by a couple of blunders on our last day - our room keys got turned off, and the parking valet ($26 a day) couldn't find our car. Still, it's a cheerful, well-located place, steps from the beach and the Santa Monica Pier and promenade. We'd go back.

Well... it's OK. Nothing special to be honest but then there was nothing really bad about it either. If you are from the UK I would say it is above the standard of a Travel Lodge but not as good as a Copthorne.

We found the service to be pretty useless. The bar staff took ages to get a drink and didnt seem that freindly. Don't have a coffee in the afternoon either as it tasted like syrup!

Pool was good - nice and warm and the hotel staff didn't object to us having swim at 3am. A decent hotel to tour from but I wouldn't book it if you are after luxury.

Oh one more thing... no tea or coffee making facilities in the room ... what's all that about??

I really liked the service in this place. It was the first night of our honeymoon en route to Hawaii from the U.K. We were given a partial room upgrade & sent champagne & strawberries dipped in chocolate, a really nice touch. The concierge was always helpful, the bar pleasant, service good & the location was ideally placed for a quick trip back to the airport. Recommended.
