My family and I just spent three nights at the Loews. Having read the mixed reviews I decided to give it a chance based on the Loews webiste, which has a big focus on kids and some appealing photos. Big mistake. Below are a the problems we had:
The following is taken directly from the website: "A movie and popcorn daily, as well as our Loews Loves Kids amenities for our youngest guests and our special T-Loews bag of treats and tips for discerning teens, make a family vacation more fun at Loews Hotels. Come home to Loews today, with your whole family."
None of this happened - not a single part of it. My teenagers inquired at the front desk while my nine year old and I spoke with the concierge. Both were surly but eventually said they would take of it. Never happened.
We had two rooms - one had a distinct odor of animal urine (Loews accepts pets at a substantial charge). Houskeeping came and doused the carpet with a "pine" scent. No better.
The photos make the hotel appear to be on the beach. It isn't. A dangerous road and dirty "park" need to be navigated first. The beach itself is very disappointing. Torn cans and other objects make shoes de riguer. The location is popular with vagrants - one of whom took all of his clothes off and washed himself in the surf right in front of us.
The pool is cloudy, small and waist deep. It is made of tin or aluminum suspended in a ceiling. Small, cheaply built and yucky.
The balconies you see in the website pictures are less than a foot deep (no exaggeration). Forget about sitting out and enjoying the view. Not physically possible. There is a reason you won't see chairs on any of the balconies in the website pictures.
$26 a day car parking charge.
I could go on about the poor service and the Denny's quality food but I won't. All of this at over $300/room/day.
Go if you want. But don't say you weren't warned about the Loewe standards.
