“Good service, wonderful location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2012

We came to the hotel with high expectations. We got the room with view to scaffolding - the hotel was under construction from the outside. There was no information about construction when making a reservation/in the website. After complaining got a new room with wonderful view to the beach. Would have appreciated the info beforehand.

Service in a hotel was mainly very good. Fernando at door was very kind and service minded. Service in the restaurants was also very enjoyable. Main desk was the weakest point of service. Maybe a bit too serious attitude ;-).

Food - we were very satisfied with the breakfast. There is no buffet, thank god.

Location is good, though there is some construction work going on in the area as well.

Free wifi should be self-evident in this level of hotels.

Clean, beautiful, good location - yes, would visit again!

Room Tip: I think there is no balcony in every room, so that might be good to check. Rooms facing the sea have...

Thank you for taking your valuable time to share your kind words. We realize the construction was an inconvenience and hope you enjoyed your upgraded ocean view room. We hope to welcome you back again in the near future to see the wonderful changes we’ve made. Finally, I want to thank you for taking a moment to single out Fernando, he is a valued member of our team and truly an asset. I look forward to sharing your praise with him. I stayed in a King Suite over thanksgiving with 2 kids (8 and 10) and my husband. The room was strangely laid out - one bathroom which was in the living room, next to the hallway door. So from the master, you walked out, almost to the room exit to get to the bathroom. There was a lot of construction going on and one day there were men on lifts outside our window, talking and hammering etc so that we had to leave.

We hadn't been aware of the construction and when I asked to move there was nothing available. For a $600/night room it was really suboptimal. The room was average in terms of finishes etc. In addition, you still had to pay for room wifi at that rate - unbelievable. It was a corner room on the 4th floor and the street next to it is loud - lots of noise from cars and people which wakes you up in the morning. The front desk person not well informed - said there was no sofabed and sent up a rollaway - but there was a sofabed.

On the bright side - the restaurant was great and host did everything to accommodate our large party and kids. Food was really good. Location was good to the pier and nearby shopping. Pool heated but pretty basic, not great for kids.

I wouldn't stay here again - hotel was only average in my opinion and prices not worth it.

We stayed here for 2 nights on our way back to Australia. What a great way to finish a holiday!
The hotel was comfortable, quiet and clean. Our room had a view of the Pier and the northern coastline. The staff were friendly and helpful (except the Concierge who didn't know the price of a bus ticket).
The location was excellent. The beach was wide and clean (Muscle beach and the Pier are just across from the hotel). Restaurants and an excellent range of shops are a short walk to the north of the hotel.
We enjoyed hiring bikes and riding to Venice Beach for some light excercise. Our daughter had a great time at the Trapeze school on the Pier - it is amazing what you can learn in a 2 hour session. The aquarium under the Pier was disappointing.
Be aware that the hotel is currently renovating their facade.

Room Tip: Ask a beach view room to take full advantage of the location

Fantastic location, walk to pretty much any type of food, shopping or entertainment. The staff was so kind, the pool overlooks the Pacific and the Santa Monica Pier, the service was fantastic.
We'll be back in March!

The hotel was recommended by friends in LA. Not cheap but Loews has a fabulous location almost on the beach and within walking distance to all Santa Monica attractions and facilities - Santa Monica Pier, 3rd St Promenade, restaurants, shopping, bars etc. Rooms are well appointed and very comfortable. Service was good from the time we arrived with the valet until our departure. It was unfortunate we only stayed one night as there was no time to use the other facilities (pool, spa etc).

Only negative is at this price you'd think that wifi would be included.

Room Tip: Beach side is best.

Actually, whenever I go to Los Angeles, I make it a point to book myself into this hotel. Why? Simple, it's near the beach and, if I'm going to L.A., I want to be near the Pacific. Simple as that. But this hotel is my favorite in the city. Most of the time I stay here, I'm working but it doesn't feel like it thanks to the laid-back vibe at this hotel. It's steps from the beach (and you can rent a bike right there), has a great gym (with classes) and a very nice pool. The restaurant is tops and overall, it just feels like a resort. Another plus is that you can walk to several other good and hip eating establishments (Chez Jay, Cha Cha Chicken and Cora's Coffee Shop) as well as the tons of shopping along the 3rd Street Promenade. In L.A., which is not a walking city, this is a huge plus for me. You can also hop in your car and head north on the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) to Malibu and other beaches.

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a room overlooking the pool or the ocean...makes a huge difference.

My wife and I are from Australia, and for the second time we booked into Loews Santa Monica on our way back through L A

We love the laid back beach atmosphere of Santa Monica, and Loews is in the perfect position to take advantage of this lifestyle

Make sure you get a room that not only overlooks the beach, but also has a view of the Santa Monica pier. When this is lit up at night the view is spectacular

We love being able to access the beach easily, and to walk 20 mins down the beach to Venice for breakfast. Most of the restaurants of Santa Monica are a short walk or taxi ride away, and shopping and entertainment on 3rd St promenade is also in walking distance

The hotel has a great bar and lobby area, and there is nothing better than sitting there, or on the pool deck, with a drink, watching the sunset.

The rooms are vey comfortable and well stocked and staff are friendly and helpful

I would recommend this hotel and will always make it part of our plans when next in L A

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room with a view of the beach and the Pier
