“Heaven on the Pier!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2012

Loved our stay from start to finish. The fireplaces on the terrace, the pool and jacuzzi, the fabulous concierge (Mike!), the spectacular view of the beach, pool and pier from our beautiful 4th floor room, made for the perfect stay. Easy and pretty walks on the beach, on the pier, to Santa Monica's shopping and dining - fabulous! Comfortable beds and lovely room and bathrobes were the whipped cream on top of a perfect Santa-Monica-Sundae!

We came here under the mistaken impression that this was a luxury hotel. It's fine, but I can't say more than that. We got the suite, which is very small, with no style and many little problems such as poor soundproofing and no hot water to the sinks at various times of day. I'd rank it a notch below a good Embassy Suites. It's clean and well stocked, but very boring - beige, unadorned and plain. The plumbing in neighboring rooms is very loud, and the windows do not block the street sounds well. I would have expected to pay $200-$300 a night because of the good location. The food at the restaurants is good, but basic and unimaginative. The spa is fairly unacceptable. The salon is cheaply furnished, again with no style, and is messy and cluttered, like a vietnamese nail salon crammed into the corner of a poorly managed Supercuts.

The main problem is that it positions itself as a luxury hotel, with high prices and big extra charges for everything.

I like this hotel -- it has good service, a great gym and excellent cappucino at the coffe bar in the lobby in the mornings. For the first time, I booked my room via a discounter and saved $300 per night, but felt that I was assigned a room that any "regular" guest would never be given. Carpet brought the whole experience down a notch and I felt that the room really needed to be refreshed. The only missing service element was not being welcomed back to the hotel, as I have stayed there a few times before. I would return again, but only if the rate is right and the room is not at spa level.

Room Tip: Do not accept a spa level room, there are better ones to choose from.

Have stayed there regularly over the years , normally as part of business trips. Loews could be awesome, however under achieves in many areas. Service although good (if a little insincere) is woefully slow particularly in the bar areas. Seating is uncomfortable (chairs too low for the tables). Rooms and common areas are a sea of unimaginative beige. Saying that cleanliness of rooms is great, and the guys at the front of the hotel who do the valet and get cabs etc are awesome. Don't try and get a late check out. I wanted a 1 hour extension following a 9 day stay and a 150 person Conference....after much wrangling I felt honoured to be awarded a very generous 30 mins...

The location is amazing, however with a little effort this hotel really could step up. For me to go back it will need to.

Stayed there recently. Had an ocean view room-$389 per night. Room below us smoking on their veranda-called front desk 4 times and they did nothing. If smoke bothers you this is not the place!!

My boyfriend and I stayed here 1 night on our way to Hawaii. I booked through Agoda and got a better rat. We were upgraded to a lovely room over looking the beach. Great lounge outside with fire pits.
