A hotel with perfect location almost on the beach in Santa Monica, with short walking distance to shopping and restaurants, and a great jogging track outside the window. Very nice service, and good rooms, and great rooftop bad. But the hotel lacks an edge to bring it up among my favorites.

Overpriced, weak service, old rooms. Internet didn't work the entire week I was there. They just kept saying they were "working on it." Decent pool and rooftop bar will not make this a repeat.
Lobby is tiny, lobby staff is friendly but they don't get things done for you. The rooms are renovated but old and things are breaking.

We got a signature room with ocean view as requested. The room was very nice and the view beautiful. The valet parking guys are extremely kind and efficient. The hotel location is great.

We took it for granted that functional facilities (e.g iron, ironing board and coffee making machine) that we had found available in all previous hotels/motels in California would have been available in our room. Instead we learnt that the hotel recognises these as complimentary. As such we were required to request for these and had to continually request for the teas, coffees, sugar, milk and cups each day. Even when these were produced they were never brought all at the same time, or the coffee brought/left in a bowl topped to the brim and uncovered; the cups would never have been washed from a previous use or replaced with clean cups. A simple task of making a refreshment in the comfort of our room turned out to be quite stressful.
We were staying for 5 nights and had to request for a replenishment of more toiletries on our 3rd nights - even though it was clear from the remnant of soap and shower gel left that it was required.
The Wi-fi was not working at all for 4 hours when we arrived due to a technical problem across the hotel. It never worked properly throughout our stay.

Very excellent location,very friendly staff but average services and very poor room and I think they have very shortage in staff in all means,and when I think I will come back to santa Monica I will go defentily to other hotel.

Staff were helpful and responsive however, No fridge, no glasses, no water, not enough power points, no tea coffee facilities. WiFi totally unreliable. from our point of view cheap soap.

This was once a beautiful Art Deco hotel that is now way past its prime. Beautiful old original features, but it would cost a lot of money to bring it up to scratch.

People were very friendly, but the minus side greatly outweighed their kindness.

This hotel might suit a family, or a group of young people, but not business travellers en route. i I have tried to write a balanced review. There was a party on the roof and the noise insulation was so good, we hardly heard a peep.

Bed was very comfortable.

Room Tip: Get none third floor or higher. There are some great shops in easy walking distance and a myriad...

Booked a terrace suite and got upgraded to a 2 bedroom apartment with a great view of the beach. Having read other reviews, we were worried about the noise levels, but neither the noise from bar nor the pool bothered us. Very nice hotel with great staff. Helpful with everything. Asia quality hospitality delivered in a friendly California laid-back style. I would like to name people like Charmian or Zack or Jesus in parking who were particularly helpful but do not want to take away from the other staff whose names I do not know but were equally nice.

Room Tip: If you can, splurge and get one of the suites.

We stayed here for 4 nights as part of our Californian road trip....and I have one thing to say about this place...WOW-O-WOW!

Check in was smooth and we were shown to our room by the bell boy. 1st impressions of the room was that it wasn't the largest (this was the 6th hotel we'd stayed in during the trip) but it was perfectly adequate (by UK standards) and the bathroom was gorgeous, probably bigger than the living area. The bathroom had a wet room area and a separate bath area. Our room was on the 5th floor and we'd paid extra for an ocean view which was well worth it.

The pool area is at the rear of the hotel and again was perfect for a couple of hours sunbathing after a hard day doing touristy stuff in LA! The pool area was practically deserted every day which suited us (compared to what we were about to discover in Las Vegas!).

There is a bar/restaurant just off the reception area where we would have breakfast every morning. They also served lunch and dinner there but we ate out every evening so can't comment on the food, but breakfast was great.

The penthouse bar is the place to be for sunset and late in the evenings. It has an outdoor area, with heaters, which gets busy at sunset as it had amazing views over the beach/sea. They ran a good happy hour between 4-6pm every day which seemed quite popular, reduced beers and half price wine. We ate out every night (there are numerous restaurants within 5mins walk, specifically on 3rd street promenade) and would head back to the Penthouse bar about 10pm for a couple of drinks. The bar was quite dark and moody at night and was definitely a place to be seen.

The hotel offered valet parking which we didn't use as it was quite expensive, but there are several self park garages within 2mins walk of the hotel.

We loved our 4 days at the hotel - the location, service level, staff, pool, food and drink....everything was perfect. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and its not the largest hotel so they really made an effort to get to know the guests which was pleasing to see.

We saw quite a lot of LA and we were so glad we stayed out in Santa Monica - it was perfect staying by the beach yet only a 20/25min drive in to Beverley Hills.

We will definitely be staying at this hotel again...its perfect and I'd recommend it to anyone.
