Although this hotel was nice, I received an unrequested upgrade when I checked in which just showed up on my credit card 2 months after my stay! After being routed around to numerous people, no one is returning my calls including the Hotel Manager. Worst customer service I have ever experienced. Future business trips to Santa Monica will not find me staying at Shutters ever again.

We stayed at Shutters for 4 nights in March, 2005. We thought that the hotel was generally charming but lacking in some areas to make it truly special. When we were there, there was renovation going on that made our floor very noisy at times. Our room was very nice, but the housekeeping service was spotty in that items were forgotten, like no bath mat or no replacement of amenities. The food at the restaurant, Pedals, where we enjoyed lunch and breakfast was excellent, but pricey, as were the cocktails served in the evening. The location on the beach is superb. We enjoyed the promenade and the proximity to the pier. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful.

I remember how crisp and well appointed the Hotel was when it opened and it has not kept up with the times. Maintenance is lacking in the rooms and many other areas. The cleanliness can not be faulted. For the money I would go elsewhere.

I spent a weekend at Shutters. I paid $545 a night for a Honeymoon package that put me in a full ocean view room. The room was OK, but for $545 a night, it should have been way more than OK. It was cozy and quaint; the only things luxury about it were the spa tub and the fully stocked refrigerator. I realized that what you pay for is the view, not the hotel room. So if that's all you care about, knock yourself out here. I, for one, was extremely disappointed. Also, not all the rooms have been remodeled. I got stuck in a room that was not remodeled, so I had old furniture and a huge, fat TV - instead of the flat screen/DVD/CD player upgrades that are in the remodeled rooms. Bottom line is that this hotel is NOT worth the $. I recommend you spend it at a real luxury hotel and pamper yourself.
