“Gorgeous Hotel on the Beach near Santa Monica Pier”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013 via mobile

We stayed at Shutters while attending the MTV Awards! The hotel was in a perfect location within walking distance to Santa Monica Pier and close to the 3rd Street Promenade! The hotel resembles a New England Cape Cod Style home. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The flowers at the hotel were simply stunning.

This is an expensive hotel and so EVERYTHING WAS expensive. It is just the way it is. The room was very nice with a view of the beach. One complaint is traveling up and down the steps. We were on the 6th floor. If you have any problems with steps, reserve a room on the ground floor.

The pool was gorgeous and there was even a hot tub. The weather was very chilly while we were there, but the pool was heated.

The Lobby has two fireplaces and overlooked the beach. There was a Jazz trio on the weekends.

This hotel was first class all the way!

We had looked forward to a stay here for years. We booked a room with 2 queens to accommodate our family of young kids. When we arrived at 10pm after a long drive, the room had one king bed. My husband spoke to staff and the manager to try and solve our dilemma, while our kids slept. In the end they told us that there was no other room we could have unless we paid 300 dollars extra, that they didn't have rooms with 2 queens, the couch didn't convert to a bed and the best they could do was to offer us a single roll away bed, nothing could be solved until morning.
After a very uncomfortable night, we spoke to the day manager. He said, that the couch converted into a bed, what was the problem, but said sorry. For an expensive hotel, to not offer their paying guests a bed that they booked nor a good will gesture for misrepresentation and failure to accommodate us is appalling.
On the plus side, the hotel is beautiful to look at the bed was (eventually) comfortable and the breakfasts were great. We thought room service staff and food was awful and wouldn't order again.
We will stay in the Regent Beverly again when we are in LA.

Stylish hotel right on the beach. Nicely decorated and great atmosphere. The lobby was buzzy. a slight check in glitch was quickly remedied. Bikes available for beach side cycling and easy beach access. Shutters gets everything right.

A great hotel, perfectly located on Santa Monica beach.

The rooms are imaginative, and win the record for the 'tallest bed' this reviewer has stayed in - I struggled to hop on and I'm 6'2.

There was a great amenity cabinet in the bathroom, though I was disappointed to find that (despite the price of the room) these items were not free of charge.

The service in the hotel bar and restaurant downstairs is slick and you are almost guaranteed to be served by a thespian in waiting. The service falls down a bit when you go "off standard script" a bit with conversation and questions, but that's not unusual in the States.

Overall i'd recommend this place in a heartbeat.

Right on the beach! Rooms are small, but very comfortable. However, the price is too high! The service is ok, but not top notch, e.g. at check-in we were given our key cards and room number: after a little "odyssey" (two elevator rides and two corridor walks) we are arrived at "our" room, but the keys did not work. It turned out the receptionist had written the wrong room number on our key card envelop.
Breakfast was ok, but again not outstanding for the high price.
The location is clearly unbeatable, though.

What can be better than after a day of shopping on Rodeo Drive, go back to a beautiful house by the sea. Shutters on the Beach is a very elegant and comfortable hotel with incredible ocean view. The location is one of the best in Santa Monica. The rooms with breathtaking view of the ocean are fantastic. One never wants to leave this place. Of course, when I discovered that the rooms have whirlpool tubs with unbelievable bathroom accessories, my heart was full of warmth. And, of course, restaurants are fabulous. Pico restaurant is very beautiful and has great appetizers. However, I just fell in love with the Living Room. What a place! The ambiance is so elegant. Two fireplaces come handy when it is a little cool outside. They also have heated Lobby Terrace where one can sip on a glass of wine while admiring the beautiful view of the ocean and the beach. I love to snack on some cheese plate and charcuterie. Do not wait to make your reservation, life is too short not to enjoy it.

Room Tip: Suits are unbelievable.

First of all let me start by saying Shutters is a very pretty little hotel right on Santa Monica beach, great view and great location, beautiful view of the pier, but way over priced in my opinion. The room we stayed in was a deluxe ocean view for $900 a night, the room was very tiny, off the lobby floor, ceilings are extremely low felt cramped, bathroom was so so? And we could not even leave the doors open because people could see right in from the walkway on the beach, which is pretty active all day and night The bed was very nice. service was adequate. All in all not what I expect for a 4 or 5 star hotel. We moved to another location in Beverly Hills for much less and 5 star service!

Room Tip: If you do decide to stay here, good place for a couple, ask for a room on a higher floor or a larger...
