While I am certain I reviewed this property already, it seems to have vanished so here I go again:

This is a great property that has everything you'll need. They even have bikes which are great since you are right on the bike path and you can crusie to venice without getting in a car.

The lobby and bar at neighboring Casa del Mar is more lively so definitely check it out. But shutters has balconies so I preffer the rooms at shutters.

On our wedding night, we got a jr suite (paid 550 back then). It was on the top floor but it was loud since it was street side. Definitely opt for a room on the poolside or the beachside. We ended up checking in at midnight then checking out at 6:00 AM and just going home and sleeping in our house nearby... So that stay was a bust.

However, we have been back since that nightmare stay and stayed in corner room 306 (paid 600) and had a nice lovely view. This room is small but it is right over the boardwalk and has a nice balcony. 106 and 206 have similar views but are lower down.

Very nice, and the staff is generally nice as well. If you don't look the part of a typical Shutter's patron, they aren't as accommodating. As other reviews state, the rooms are more like a beach house. The pool area is great, so definitely take advantage.

I'm only giving an above avg rating, rather than excellent for two reasons:
1. I think the bath products provided (sky blue) could be better. They say the products are specially formulated for Shutters, but it reminds me of the stuff I get at every other chain hotel.

2. The bathroom area lacks privacy, so it's better to stay here with your partner rather than friends. By this I mean that the door to the toilet has shutters, so it feels open, the shower has a glass door, so unless you feel comfortable around others in the buff, more than one person can't use the sink or toilet when someone is in the shower.

Stayed here during a 10 day cal vacation for our 8th anniverary, it was our first stop before driving up the coast. This place is fantastic! The second you walk in you know your going to be well taken care of. The staff is on top of things and very welcoming without getting in your face. The rooms are so pretty; it feels like your staying in Diane Keaton's beach house in As Good as it Gets, it has great touches like books, dvd's and great bath amenities and the bed was soooo comfy. The hotel itself is intimate not at all overwhelming and the location (on the Beach!) is perfect! The pool is in the center of the hotel with great views of the beach and never overcrowded. Go downstairs to Coast for breakfast, not only are the views and cool breezes great, but the decor, service and food is cozy and comforting. (Have the lemmon ricotta pancakes-YUM!) We stayed here during the Emmy's ton's of celebs and power players and not once did we feel second class -Great Staff & Great Hotel!!.

This was the start to our honeymoon, and I have to say what a great place to start. We had a full ocean view room which was fantastic, and all the furnishings made the room feel so comfortable and relaxing.
The staff were very friendly and in the time that we stayed there we never saw the chamber maids even in the corridors and our room was always made up within a hour of us leaving it.
The views from the room was superb, however there was one downside to our room and that it over looked the hotel entrance were all the cars pulled up and also the main restaurant which on top of it had a very large extractor fan and air conditioning unit and they were running all the time and very noisy. Both these things together meant that we could not have the large glass doors open in our bedroom and sit on the balcony which was a real shame.
That said the rest of the hotel was so good that this was a minor problem and would not stop us from staying there again.
The hotel is very expensive but on balance we think it is worth it for special occasions, just for the views and the rooms alone.
