“Irresistible”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

After covering a few thousand miles on a journey across Northern and mid-Calfornia, a chance to relax by the beach was on the menu... Unfortunately, the Boardwalk in Santa Cruz is a little too Blackpool for my liking.
Hula's though was a nightly hang out, found accidentally - during Happy hour... the only issue is choosing your favourite Cocktail... in superb glasses/goblets.

Food was pretty good, not fine dining, scorpion or Volacano bowl will do just what you expect it to do... locals are very friendly making this the stop off on your way out for a meal and perhaps for a little nightcap on your way home...

“A Happy Happy Hour or More”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

My spouse and I wandered into Hula's Island Grill and Tiki Room by chance on a Thursday afternoon when we were celebrating his birthday in Santa Cruz, CA. We were quite fortunate to find a couple of seats at the quaint Tiki decorated bar and happy to find out that Happy Hour was going on where most of the tropical drinks were $5 each and appetizers were $5 each as well. The drinks were nicely prepared and some of them came with that paper umbrella sticking out from the glass...oh, so tropical, atmospheric and a bit of kitch. Anyway, the food was okay. Nothing to savor about or want to order more. We ordered the potstickers and they were a bit greasy but they still hit the spot with the tropical drinks.

“Super loud, super fun, super tasty”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2012

Wasabi in the mashed potatoes? Yes, please! Unsual fish prepared several ways including spicy or sweet. Big portions, super loud bar scene, people tend to lingerrrrrr and take up tables when they should leave but the waitstaff is lovely enough not to rush anyone. Fun tropical drinks but mainly I super love the fish in all its variations. Don't bring people with hearing issues; it's hard enough to hear with folks with partial hearing loss.

“Decent Food and Service, Great Drinks”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2012

We ate here after a friend recommended it to us. I ordered the pulled pork while my wife ordered the Ahi Tuna. Both came out to us a bit faster than we'd like, which made us question whether everything was cooked fresh. The food was decent, but the drinks and atmosphere were great.

“Go for Happy Hour - $5 drinks and apps!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

I was recently in Santa Cruz for a Girls Weekend and after some wine tasting and shopping downtown, we headed to Hula Grill for dinner. We had made reservations before the weekend as we knew that this place can get SUPER busy on the weekends, especially in the summer. We really lucked out because we called Hula Grill and asked if we could come in a little early for dinner. Low and behold, our reservation was now right smack in the middle of Happy Hour! We walked right in and were led to our table and then the fun began! $5.00 for all of their appetizers and fun, fruity drinks! This was a great addition to our already fun Girls Weekend! I think that we literally ordered one of each of their appetizers and drinks.....and they were all really good! Their spicy edamame was a little too spicy, but everything else was really good! For the 6 of us, we ended up paying only $20 each! Much cheaper than had we ordered apps, entrees, and drinks. Can't beat a really tasty, very filling, and fun meal for $20!

When we left, there was a long line of folks waiting to be seated. I'm not sure if they had reservations or not, but I am so glad that we thought ahead to make our reservations and then change them to come in earlier. Had we stuck with our original 7:00pm reservation, we probably would have had to wait for quite some time.

Overall, great food, good atmosphere.....we had a great time, great service. We'll definitely be back the next time we venture over to Santa Cruz.
