“Best Kept Secret Get-away!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2012

Wow! Chaminade Resort and Spa is a beautiful resort with sweeping views of the mountains and ocean. The facility has luxurious rooms, spa, pool and offers their guests, peace and quiet. Sitting out on the back deck, with the fireplaces and beautiful fountain, while having drinks, appetizers or a meal, is very relaxing. Their Sunday Brunch is delicious! Complimentary glass of champagne, carving station, made to order omelets, along with a sumptuous dessert area, was absolutely a fantastic way to end our weekend get-away! Complimentary valet parking is a plus too!

Ok so the restaurant was nice with a great view, but the rooms really need some TLC. It seems like they bought new furniture( except for mattresses, that was the saggiest mattress I've ever slept on!!) and bedding but the structure is still old and worn down. The bathroom was the worst, we had a tub that filled with water during our showers and even though I complained to the front desk it was worse the next morning!
The spa was decent, nothing fancy, but my esthetician was great.
The breakfast buffet was very good, with an omelet bar and lots of hot food. There is a very nice trail that goes back behind the hotel which was a good activity to get some exercise without being stuck in the fitness room!
Overall the amenities are nice but the rooms really need to be fixed up.

Thank you for the review. I appreciate the time you have taken. Thank you for thekind comments on the restaurant, fitness center & spa. I am sorry to hear there were some concerns with your guest room. We did recently purchase new mattresses for all our guest rooms and I apologize they did not fit your comfort level. I am also apologetic about the experience you had with bathroom shower. I will make sure to follow up with the housekeeping and maintenance team on this matter. We would love to have you back in the future. If there is anyway I can be of assistance please do not hesitate.

The hotel has a great view from the restaurant and the rooms were comfortable with nice beds. I am giving it only 3 stars however as we got the feel that the management has been around a long time and they are not interested in updating their services or amenities.

We used a coupon for our stay which made the price just right, but they didn't have a way to use our electronic coupon and required that we go print it out using their computers. This did not cost us, but if you are a "green" hotel figure out a way to process coupons without a piece of paper. In over 2 years of using these coupons I have yet to have another business not be able to process the electronic version. I believe this requires the front desk person to write a code down. Also, upon checkout I requested an electronic receipt, but again they had no way to provide this. They had to print it out. I haven't stayed in a hotel in the last year that wasn't able to email a receipt electronically. If you claim to be a "green" hotel then update your systems so that they are in line.

Again, the room was comfortable. A bit outdated with a non-working strange sink in the entryway to the bathroom, but still ok. The porch/deck was pretty much in the parking lot so that wasn't great, but the other side of the hall must be a lot better considering it is up against a green area.

Pool and workout rooms were decent as was the breakfast that was included in our stay. Overall a pretty average experience.

Thank you for staying with us and I appreciate the comments. I am disappointed to hear your stay was only average as we truly strive to exceed all our guest expectations. Thank you for the comments on our beds as just last year we furnished all our guest rooms with new mattresses. It is true we do have some members of the management team that has been at the Chaminade for several years; however we are all very interested and excited to continually improve our service and amenities. I am proud of our “Green Business” accomplishments and understand our initiatives will continually develop. In 2007 Chaminade was the first hospitality business to become certified by the Monterey Green Business Program and since then we have continually been recertified each year. I am sorry you were not able to recognize our efforts. I want to thank you again for the comments on your stay with us. We love to hear our guest feedback as it will always help us improve our property and level of service. If there is any aspect of your stay you would like to review with me please do not hesitate.

This hotel is located on a bluff overlooking the ocean. Every detail has been carefully maintained. The spa is amazing, the rooms beautiful and the food delicious. We wish we could have stayed longer. The staff was very accommodating and took care of every need. I very nice surprise in a time when customer service seems to be lacking. We will come back again and again :)

This ia a remarkably quiet place just a minute or two from the slo and go crazy traffic on route 1 in Santa Cruz . We reserved for valentine's dinner at a priced fixe of $55.00 -- 3 courses, no wine. Food was good, service was good, space is large and nice but not plush by any means . Added to the price of dinner was usual tax AND a "resort fee " of 20 % . Yeow.

We also booked massages where the welcoming sign sugested that it was a quiet zone but for a brief few minutes, it was quite the opposite as a staff member and client were noisly yammering as we entered . The massage was good- nothing special. it was $105 for a 50 minute massage but in the fine print is a 20% resort fee . Gratuity was included but an additional tip was suggested. The final cost of 2 massages was $ 252.50.

The room was spacious and quiet as there were no other guests in the building. The bed was comfy. The lighting was so dim that we found it diffucult to read in the room.
We loved the location, the lack of cars moving about, and the staff was always accommodating. The included breakfast was excellent both when served from the menu or the buffet. The view from the bar and restaurant is lovely, not spectacular but lovely.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room with a good view.

This is an all time favorite go to for a quick weekend retreat and getaway.
The rooms are well kept and clean, it has back sliding doors that open up to the back property.
Lavender seems to waft through the air and makes the property smells so good!
Dont be alarmed with the $20 resort fee that they tag on your final bill! Use the facilities - full gym and sauna and steam room - full shower room experience! Use the tennis courts - lit at night time but make sure to book it! The pool was warm and the hot tub just right on a February day!
The property is surrounded by walking trails and it felt good to be out in the open clean air.
There's a cemetery just right outside the resort which is interesting!

Room Tip: Low two story building. You decide whether you want up or down, the walls are not too thin so you do...

In Santa Cruz its hard to find a place that is worth the money dollar for dollar, you can stay at an old motel or stay at chaminade. I would opt for the latter, good rooms, pool, fitness center and restaurant. overall its the place to stay for a weekend get away.
