“sweet spot!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2014

My wife is very picky about cleanliness of rooms. She was impressed...wow. This says a lot!! It was a nice clean room. We had "middles terrace" rooms, my daughter and son in law, too! Big deck in front of the middle terrace rooms, third level up. Great view of the beach and pier. Greatly enjoyed the deck, view, rooms! Had a great time!! there are a lot of different type rooms; we enjoyed ours.

Room Tip: there are four middle terrace rooms...two have kitchenettes, two don't ... room 23 no kitchen, k...

We had the best time and stay in santa cruz last week to start our vacation the room was great but the view was better we can't wait to go back. We have stayed elsewhere near the beach but the price was higher and no view.

I grew up going to Santa Cruz often but always wanted to stay the night and not deal with parking and getting into a car all sandy. The Casablanca Inn was perfect and I took advantage of a groupon and I'm so glad I saw it. I will now do a trip here at least once a year. The location is perfect. I have a 4 yr old and we walked to the beach, wharf and boardwalk with no stroller. Accommodations were comfortable and we did enjoy the continental breakfast too. The full kitchen in the bungalow rooms are awesome and I may cook next time we stay. I already recommend this hotel to family and they are looking for dates to make their own vacation! Thank you to the helpful staff in making our first overnight in Santa Cruz awesome!

Our family of 4 recently stayed in the Presidential Suite, which is in the back of the property on the top floor. The room had old charm with very little updating. The flooring was mostly rugs… It had a king size bed and two pull out loveseat to become a twin bed. The king bed was comfortable, but the 2 pull out were so uncomfortable. I would have rather put the thin mattress on the floor.

The bathroom was adequate. We had a sucken jacuzzi bath tub which we didn't use. The room had a small refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, kitchen sinks and plates/utensils. It also had a coffee maker, but the coffee bags that came with it was so weak. Bring your own coffee!!!

I was surprise to find a wine/bottle opener and wine glasses. That made our stay more enjoyable..

The hotel is literally down the street from the Santa cruz boardwalk (5 minutes walk).

At night, santa cruz can get very cold. There was a fireplace in the room, but unfortunately we did not turn it on until we realized how cold the room got.

Since the room is on the top floor, it was really bright in the morning. Eventhough, there were some curtains, but in the kitchen area, there was none!!! Which meant it was very very bright at 7 in the morning!!

The hotel had a free continental breakfast which included bagels/cream cheese, fruits, pastries…coffee, juice, milk…Very basic but it was a nice touch..

There is a Thai restaurant below the hotel…Food is really good, but don't go there during peak hours…

Overall, it was the hotel was pretty good. I would definitely stay there again but not in the presidential suite (#31). I would try to rent the suite below which has a full kitchen, more updated and curtains to keep the light out from the morning sun..

like other reviews have stated, this place is right across from the beach, which is great. We were able to walk all around without having to worry about parking the car. The room was nice. It was like a little condo. Fully stocked kitchen, full-size fridge, microwave, breakfast nook table, and all the dishes too. The bed was comfortable and I was glad to have the ceiling fan--except you couldn't use it without the light being on which was inconvenient. Tiny balcony with a slice of a view of the beach. Our patio had part of the patio overhang infringing on it and the view, but it was ok. There is a lot of noise on the street right below the rooms, so i was awoken several times during the night and even more so in the morning by the garbage trucks. overall, it was a fine stay for the location. One note-there is no attached restaurant anymore. It is now an Indian place. We were disappointed because the materials in the hotel room indicated that there was a happy hour daily in their restaurant. Rushed down to find out that wasn't the case.

Perfect location for our week long trip to Santa Cruz/Capitola. The staff was super friendly. The view from the beach front bungalows was the best. We walked around the area to see if we would have chosen a different spot (at Casablanca and at other hotels)....for the price, location, chill feel, view, etc...we wouldn't. As a matter of fact, we would want to have all of our family to come together and rent ALL the beach front bungalows that share the balcony. They did a nice job trying to separate the space on the balcony as best they could in case you don't know your neighbors. When there were other guests, I just put on my headphones to listen to my beach music track. Only downfalls (which we didn't mind) were the thin walls - you can hear people talking, hard to open entrance door, smokers on the balcony (if any), may not have a/c - we didn't try that hard to see if it worked (but we kept windows and balcony door open) and dated interior (to be expected with historic building)...but again, we really didn't mind those things. Best part was location, staff, safe parking, balcony over looking beach, kitchenette in our room, being able to wake up every morning walk to Ideal Bar & Grill's coffee shop, either watch volleyball players or the sometimes very entertaining people watching, walk the shore, wharf or boardwalk and many choices to eat. We ate at a different location most every meal, although I believe we frequented Ideal Bar & Grill the most. Aquarius restaurant with O'neill lounge was by far the most aesthetically pleasing. Less than a block away was Club Ed's surf rentals and lessons on Cowell Beach which was another definite plus. There was a liquor store/souvenir shop a few buildings down in case you need misc items. Would definitely recommend Casablanca Inn.

Room Tip: Beach Bungalow #4 - has a queen bed, a daybed with an additional trundle underneath.

We stayed one night while visiting local college campuses... We loved the street level location of our room directly across from the volleyball nets... The only down side were loud partiers parking in front of our room, BUT that is to be expected given the area... The furnishings were typical mismatch motel furnishings, but it all worked just fine for our 1 night in town...
