“Value for Money Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2007

I was cautious about this hotel prior our stay as I had read some negative reviews. I was even more concerned as our room was on a main road and the door was in the communal area for breakfast. However the room was very quiet, large and clean.

I do however agree with some of the previous comments regarding the male manager.............. he could lean to smile a little more often, having said that all of the other staff were fine and pleasant.

I liked the location as it was ideal for exploring the area. Perhaps too far to walk to the beach, but just a short 10 minute stroll into Santa Cruz town of an evening.

This hotel is not a 4 or 5 star hotel, but it is value for money for this class of accomodation.

This would be a great overall hotel if only it had better staff. When I called to make reservation employee was rude and was laughing when I asked questions and making sighing noises, when I asked for manager he said he was manager, then when I checked in the manager whos name was Chris was also very rude and unhelpful if these employees were fired and all employees were like the morning staff girls that we had it will be an overall great place to stay for price and environment.

large room

negatives:
street noise
very dirty, screenless window

Fireplace out of order (in every room)
electrical outlet fire danger (and access far too easy for children)

Reminder:

We booked our room through the Best Western site and requested a quiet room. When we arrived at start of check in we were assigned a room facing noisy Ocean Street traffic. The request for a quiet room was completely disregarded by unfriendly staff who had little interest in listening to concerns. We were given no choices and I was tempted to move to another hotel but worried they would still charge us.

At check out the staff was even more unfriendly and I over heard them talking rudely to another hotel guest who had left an item in their room.

Overall, a decent hotel but very dirty carpets (definitely wear your shoes at all times) and proceed with caution if you are looking for peace, quiet and / or friendly service.

My husband & I just spent a weekend getaway in Santa Cruz, celebrating my 50th. I chose this hotel because of it's location. We arrived early Friday morning ( 11:30 ) and were able to check in. The person at the front desk was very sweet ( Vanessa ) and helpful, when asking directions to the Crow's Nest for lunch. The room was average as far as furniture went, however, I really liked having 2 rooms that included a fireplace & jetted tub. As far as the toilet being loud when flushed, well... have you ever been on a cruise? Now, there's a LOUD toilet... The hot tub at this property is HUGE! The complimentary breakfast was WAY beyond the average continental fare. Eggs, sausage, waffles, bagels, juice, etc., not exactly the " continental breakfast " I've ever experienced. One generally gets stale donuts & coffee - PERIOD! But I digress. This property is very nice & I would stay here again in a heart beat!

We stayed at the hotel for a family wedding at another hotel Sept 22-24, 2006. We weren't expecting much, but were pleasantly surprised. The room was nice & big--I loved the shutters. Our only complaint was that the jacuzzi tub wasn't working and the toil flush was LOUD!

The lobby is bright & airy and has cute decor. The free continental breakfast was definitely above average.

The front desk staff was average.

Stayed here for 1 night and we were pleasantly surprised how nice the room was. We booked a king bed suite and it was perfect for us. The room had 2 TV's, pull out sofa-bad in the front room, a nice big king bed in the back room. Bathroom was very nice. Staff at the hotel is a little "grumpy" but overall the room was very nice. There's no pool at the hotel, but they do have a big hot tub. It's pretty close to the Boardwalk. I would stay here again.
