“Good location...that's about it.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

I was here with my husband and 5 year old son. We searched for a good hotel deal close to the boardwalk for awhile. We wanted a hotel with a balcony, close to ocean/boardwalk, hot tub, continental breakfast and a pool. We ended up here. no pool, but everything else matched. The room was big and had a kitchen, we did not use. It was a bit pricey but would be ok if you stayed awhile because of the kitchen feature. Very close walk to the ocean was the best feature.

Room Tip: Go for the ocean view with balcony.

The room we got was small but it had everything we needed(coffee maker, large comfortable bed,big bathroom, partial view of Santa Cruz Wharf & window a/c with heater) & everything worked!
Rooms at the front of the hotel were expensive but we stayed were there wasn't that great of a view but it was reasonably priced.

Stayed here for one night in Sept. 2012. Paid way more for this room than a 5-star hotel in downtown San Diego. Room was dingy, dark, old and outdated. It was clean. It was a great location but the Ocean View we paid extra for was lame due to the new Monterrey museum just recently built that blocks the view. Location was great to the wharf and pier. Not worth $227 per night though. Yikes...

I don't understand these bad reviews at all....

So pleasantly surprised as we drove up to this hotel to see how close it is to the beach and the sea. The receptionist wasn't particularly friendly but we forgot all about that upon seeing the room. Immaculate decor, large fridge freezer, lovely balcony with a table and 2 chairs with views over towards the beach and sea. The shower was good and powerful, everything was in good working order. Amazing air con and very clean and nice bedding. I didn't go to the pool/spa nor the communal dining room so I can't comment on those.

The pier and Boardwalk are literally minutes away - you're as near to the action as you can be without sitting on the pier, and yet it's still quiet and chilled. Watch the surfers running in from the sea and listen to the sound of the sea lions carrying on the wind. Pretend you're in Lost Boys and go on the funfair rides!

Next door and just down the hill is an incredible burritos and tacos place. For $3.50 you can pick up a great meal. And it's open late.

I loved Santa Cruz and this hotel was as good as I'd hoped.

Room Tip: Ask for one with a sea view, as you get a good view of the pier and the hustle and bustle of the Boa...

Stayed in a room with a Jacuzzi. Very clean. Quiet. Looks like it was recently remodeled. 32" flat screen on wall, microwave and frig. The frig was not the smallest one but one with a small freezer. Staff was cordial and helpful. Washer/dryer. Snack vending with surprisingly good prices. Location was very good. Close to boardwalk (less than 100 yds to wharf). Some questionables...The continental breakfast needs some work. Could use bagels, better selection of cereals and fresher fruit (bananas were getting brown). Spa but no pool. Not sure if this is a problem but hot water was scalding. This caused a problem when in the shower and water pressure changed.Ouch. One more thing, my car was a target for bird poop as the parking lot is open and under many trees. Still, overall stay was pleasant. Usually stay at Carousel but I will go back.
