“Charming & Friendly - pretty garden!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2009

The staff were very friendly and happy to offer suggestions and made our stay very pleasant. The room had character, the bed was comfortable and we'll return for the jacuzzi tub - with sky lights - alone! The place is clean, a little worn as some reviewers have said, but in a lived in rather than threadbare way, and there are luxurious touches without it being snobby. It definitely has a Britishy, country garden, feel to it. The cookies provided are very moreish (fortunately they offered us some to go!) and there was a wonderful breakfast selection, from cold cereal and fruit to different breads, pancakes, eggs and sausage. We enjoyed taking our coffee out to the swing in the gazebo and watching the squirrels and brook after breakfast. The place is a very short drive or decent enough walk to downtown restuarants and shopping, but I'd advise driving to the beach. You can hear the traffic noise but we chose to tune it out. We're already planning a return trip.

After a horrible night at Best Western All Suites Inn, we found a lovely room for all four of us at this Inn. Although the room, wine & cheese reception, amazing freshly baked cookies and sweet smelling garden were reason enough to enjoy our stay, Tom, the host, made it extra, extra special!! We will soooo be back!

What a pleasant stay, we really didn't want to leave! Accommodation is in unique wooden lodgings with their own deck which was great for evenings. The beds were ultra comfy and in the morning the staff made breakfast which was excellent and homemade, from the tasty banana pancakes to the quiche. Evenings were greate with a wine and cheese reception and the chance to chat and meet other guests on the decking with the sound of the brook. What is most outstanding about this inn is its staff and manager, all very friendly and went above and beyond on several occasions to make our stay truly memorable one. This is the best place we have ever stayed!

Even if the location is not perfect (next to a busy street) I would recommend this inn for its friendly staff and its original and charming rooms. We stayed at the FMRS Garden Room: picturesque, cozy, with an electric fireplace and a clean bathroom equipped with jacuzzi.
Continental breakfast is good but nothing special and is served in really tiny tables.
The atmosphere is very familiar and even if it was a one-night stay we felt at home!

My daughter and I were in town to check out UCSC. The wine and cheese and AND AND (!) reception was fantastic, I was able to speak with some locals about the school, area, to do/see, weather, quality of life etc. The nibblies where more than delicious and numerous. The gardens were outstanding visually, in color, variety and ambiance. Breakfast was perfect in selection and qualilty - Bon Apetite!

This was the second hotel we stayed in on our drive around California. We arrived and were treated to freshly baked cookies then shown to our room.

We stayed in the Artists Retreat, the room was well decorated (if a little bit floral) and well appointed. A large bed in the middle of the room with open log fire, TV/VHS on the wall, large closet and bathroom with shower and double sinks.

The Artists Retreat has a private deck and large outdoor tub, perfect to relax in together after a day out.

Complementary wine and cheese is served in the afternoon and fresh cookies are put out on an evening. The breakfast was also good with a selection of juices, teas and coffee along with insulated cups to take drinks away with you.

There is a large collection of VHS tapes to take back to your room with some cookies too.

On the day we were due to depart the forest fires had started to spread towards Highway 1, the staff let us use their computer to find information on the Internet before we set off to San Simeon.

A really quite, peaceful place to stay with incredibly welcoming staff!

The Babbling Brook Inn is now our new location for the special occasions or venue for required comfort. It is in a uniquely beautiful setting with excellent personal and friendly service. It is a place of historical significance which provides an environment and ambiance for the inspiring or inspired artist, poet or playwrite. It is a place where the lone traveler can rest in peace and comfort or provide for the need for the memories created between fiends, family and lovers.
My sincere thanks to Tom, Neil and Amanda!
