We have been driving past this place for a long time and it is always busy, so we finally decided to give it a try. They offer fast, healthy, organic based food for take out or eat in. Pretty limited menu that, for the most part, is either rice or noodle bowls with a choice of toppings -- many vegetarian/vegan, and gluten free choices.
At the recommendation of the girl taking the order, I got the spicy Dan noodle bowl which she said was the local favorite. While it was ok, I wouldn't order it again as I didn't think the sauce had much character (and the sauce is all you could taste). The green chicken curry and the chicken teriyaki were good but not traditional in any sense. In both dishes, the chicken itself had a boiled taste to it and then it is covered in sauce in the bowl, so you don't get that great rich flavor that comes from letting the flavors meld together either through marinating or cooking together. The shrimp in the shrimp rice bowl however were great and the bowl had a good balance of flavors. The chicken and noodle soup was also very tasty and with the coriander, basil, pepper and lime it definitely had a SE Asian flair.
It is ok for what it is -- fast and fresh and economical, and without the typical "oil slick" found on top of so many Asian dishes. I spent years living on rice plates and noodle bowls and I don't think Charlie Hong Kong it is going to wow anyone over in the flavor department. Will I go back again? Probably, but with altered expectations.
