I stayed at Seaway Inn last year with my teen daughter's girl scout troop in their "family room", which is a two bedroom, one bath unit. Decided to stay here again last week with my family of four in the same room (they have only one room like this). The best thing about Seaway Inn is the proximity to the wharf and Boardwalk. It is clean, well maintained, and nicely landscaped with flower boxes blooming with bright flowers. This is an old motel/motor inn that has been renovated nicely. It is a small place, and rooms are also small....bit they have fixed it up nicely. Their complimentary breakfast is quite good and well received by my teen children who are picky. They do not get up early for anything on trips usually, but they did for this breakfast....they loved making their own Belgium waffles. Pros to staying here - clean, awesome location (there is a slight hill as you walk back from the wharf and boardwalk), safe area (motels across from boardwalk and down that street are noisy and scummy), quiet at night (even with window open), awesome shower (dual water heads in our unit), and again, above average breakfast. The two room unit had one bedroom with two queen beds, table/chairs and tv. It is small, but beds were comfortable. Other room has a futon (which my picky teen daughter said was very comfy), large desk, tv unit with microwave and fridge. Cons - lighting in 2 queen room at night was bad (they need brighter bulbs or another lamp), small sink/vanity area that is within shower/toilet area...very little vanity room due to large/modern type sink/bowl. Need a better fan in the bathroom as it got very steamy.
I would stay here again. Please note if you are new to Santa Cruz that it is a very beachy-vibe type area with all sorts of odd folks. As you approach the boardwalk/beach area you will walk past some characters smoking things they shouldn't be....but they were harmless. But if you aren't used to seeing this, it can be a bit startling. But that is what Santa Cruz is like.
