“Good but expensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2014

The best location in town and I guess this is what you are paying for. It was nice and service was friendly but it was considerably more expensive than the other hotels of similar standard that we stayed in during our trip.

Stayed here on the family's annual trip to Santa Cruz. We had an entire block of rooms to ourselves. You really can't beat the location. Its just a stone's throw away from the Boardwalk and Pier, and you can fall asleep to the sounds of the waves and wake up to the seals. The deck behind the ocean view rooms provide some spectacular views of the Karaoke at the Ideal Bar across the street. If you are tired of all the hustle and bustle on the Boardwalk, all you really need to do is to keep your room's fridge stocked with the frosty beverage of your choosing (adult or otherwise), lay back in one of the Adirondack chairs on the deck, and just people watch.

Shout-out to the staff, who puts up with the entire family and how rowdy we get when together!

Room Tip: If you are up for splurging, get a room closest to where all the action is along the street. If you...

The recent remodel of the Beach Street Inn and Suites is a great option if you are visiting Santa Cruz. My wife and I stayed here with our kids and upon pulling into the parking lot, you can literally park your car and never need to use it again for the duration of your stay. The inn is located right across the street from the beach and about a 2 minute walk from the Boardwalk. The street in front is somewhat busy but with the summer weekend traffic it's not a very high speed area. The rooms themselves are immaculate. They decor is heavy on the beach themes but feels contemporary. There is an outdoor fire pit that gets lit nightly and a communal BBQ for guests use. The pool is small but has an ample supply of towels and comfortable lounge chairs. If you have a stroller, be aware that there is a very steep drive way you will have to navigate to get to the main area of the inn. On the street level, there is a great little eatery, I think it's called the Picnic Basket, with a great array of sandwiches and ice cream.

All in all, I highly recommend the Beach Street Inn and Suites. A great beachfront option for visiting Santa Cruz!

This hotel is in a great location: right in front of the beach and walking distance to the Wharf and the Boardwalk. Three levels of the hotel are along the street, and one level is around the pool. The street rooms have a view of the ocean, and it looks like some of the pool rooms get a peak as well. We stayed on the second level where we had a nice view of the people playing volleyball on the beach. The room was nice and had a refrigerator and microwave--and a huge, beautiful shower.

If you want peace and quiet, you may want to avoid the street rooms--especially the first level which is right above the street. We listened to Karaoke and Salsa dancing all afternoon on the weekend (which you may like if you're in the mood to soak in the sun and liveliness on the balcony). But we weren't too thrilled with listening to the various delivery trucks in the early mornings.

If you have picky eaters in your family, you may want a room with an oven and larger refrigerator. The hotel is walking distance to a variety of restaurants, but it is nice to be able to cook familiar foods every once in a while if you're going to be staying multiple days.

Overall, this is a great hotel. You'll just want to pick the right room depending on your preferences.

Room Tip: It looked like the rooms on the third level have great pool access and a nice ocean view too. We sta...

Me and three friends were on a road trip from NY to SF, and this was one of our last stops, and ultimately one of our favourite stops. Much thanks to this place. When we arrived they didn't really have any vacancies, but somehow they arranged for us to stay in the appartment above the reseption. It was usually way more expensive than out budget would allow, but we got a great discount. Great view of the boardwalk and pier from the balcony.
Also, you can rent bikes in the reseption, which was great for getting around.

Room Tip: Apartment above reseption is great. Otherwise perhaps try not to get a room by the pool - no view.

I used to live in SC and like to visit often. We used to stay at the Dream Inn. but when it was booked we tried staying here. We were truly impressed. Great location to all things SC. Once we park on Friday we usually don't have to drive the whole wknd. Can't wait to come back.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the ocean.

This property has apparently been undergoing a complete renovation, building by building, for the past couple of years, and I'm sure it's a hundred times better than its predecessor. My husband and I rented one of their Ocean View Sundeck suites with a good sized, sunny deck overlooking the rooms one level below us, and the beach beyond. The suite was small and pleasing, but modestly decorated and included a full, tiny kitchen within the sitting area. The website indicates that the suite can sleep 6, but I would definitely not recommend more than two adults as the two sofa sleepers are in a very small room which would be overwhelmed by even two more adults. It would be suitable for a family of 4, with two younger children however.

I think the property owners are going for "luxurious" accommodations, but I would not put them in that category. The king bed was comfortable but the pillows were not and when I asked, there were no alternates available. The in-room coffee was just standard pre-packaged, there was no tea available, and bathroom amenities were not name brand. There was no desk of any type for a work/computer area and in fact, the wi-fi was very temperamental, though the staff very kindly offered to work on it (to no avail however). We were not able to lock the french doors leading out to the deck, and were told that they were "tricky." On the more positive side, the view from our room out to the ocean was excellent, the staff friendly and accommodating, the grounds kept clean and tidy, parking very convenient right outside the rooms, nice comfortable deck furniture, and a great little sandwich/ice cream shop (The Picnic Basket) at the bottom of the stairway leading down to the street.

If you are familiar with the Dream Inn just across and up the street, this property is not exactly on that level but the room prices are pretty much identical (at least at the time we stayed there), so we were expecting a bit more in the way of upscale amenities. But this property is very charming with more of a beach-town atmosphere, and we really enjoyed being able to cook in and enjoy the outdoor deck and seating area. We would definitely consider returning, now knowing what to expect.

Room Tip: The suites on the third level have the best decks, with the parking and pool on the same level as we...
