“Great little beach-side hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2012

This was a nice little hotel located on the hill overlooking the Santa Cruz wharf and beach with very nice staff and great views. The newly renovated rooms are beachy themed basic rooms with hardwood floors which are great for when sand gets tracked in. The bathroom was a step up from ordinary - several folks commented that we wished we could take the showers home with us. There are gated steps leading down to the beach and the Picnic Basket, a small place with unique and creative breakfast and lunch choices (the fruit turnovers were especially delicious). A short walk down the other side of the Hill brings you into downtown Santa Cruz with lots of dining options.

“It was OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

CONS-
-Rooms were a lot smaller than we are used to
-The only available beach view room had to beds so I couldn't sleep with my boyfriend
-We asked for a late checkout so we would have time to get breakfast and got locked out of our room!
-There was sand on the floor
-There was only 1 spoon in the kitchen
-Window shutters ruin the ocean view
-there was no private beach view space :(
-there is no fitness center or spa

PROS-
-It is across the street from the beach and the pier
-a lot of close restaurants
-the older lady that works at night was very informative
-the shower is really nice
-it seemed pretty clean and new
-you can pretty much walk anywhere from here

Room Tip: We stayed in 202 and it was a decent view.

“One night stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

I'm a sucker for salt water taffy. So, a welcoming bagful of taffy in the room made my day on arrival at the inn. We arrived late but the check in staff was very nice about it. She was waiting for us and the room keys were ready to go when we drove up to her office. We were given the last room on the second terrace. Nice sitting area on the terrace to catch some sun during the day and views of the beach. It was a quiet night but the walls were pretty thin. We could hear our next door neighbor quite well.
Our 2 queen bedded room was on the smaller side but nicely renovated and clean. Bathroom was crowded but the spacious shower with 2 shower heads made up for it. Plenty of towels and toiletries were provided. Kitchenette with microwave, coffee maker, mini fridge and toaster was a nice touch. Having said that, I'm not sure what's up with the mattresses. Anytime one of us turned in bed, the mattress made this noisy plasticky sound. Kinda annoying, but we were too tired to be bothered by it.
Right out of the front entrance of the inn is one of the best bike paths I've ever been on. We brought our own bikes and thoroughly enjoyed the bike rides. Not too crowded, spectacular coastal views, flat terrain on the cliff plus sunny and cool weather made it that much more pleasurable.

“Fantastic Location But Don’t Expect Luxury”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

Maybe it was just our room by the pool, but the hype in other reviews just wasn’t there. Being renovated it has a few custom design features (shower, lav stand, ceiling trim), but with two queen sized beds, there was little room for anything other than a small writing-laptop table and straight back chair. The closet-suitcase space was minimal, ok for one night and that’s it. It was clean and inviting and I felt I was in a, standard vacation motel out of the 1950s. Finding the small entrance drive was challenging for someone my age. The price wasn’t that bad and I am sure my partner (who thought it was ‘kool’) will want to stay there the next time we are in Santa Cruz.

Room Tip: Rooms with a ocean view might get a better review.

“Good place by wharf and boardwalk”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

I'm surprised at all the excellent reviews. It's a good place and I do recommend it, but I wouldn't rave about it. It's got thin walls so the busy street out front and the neighbors add a good amount of background noise. The rooms are nice but again, not exceptional, except the shower is pretty awesome. It's super close to the board walk, rides and wharf, so that is awesome, but for less money you could get a better room a few blocks away. Summer time, great place to stay, any other time of year, stay somewhere else. That's my recommendation.
