“Decided to stay a second night!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2011

We kind of stumbled upon the Beach Street Inn and Suites out of desperation, having been stuck in Santa Cruz later in the day than we expected. So we popped in w/o a reservation asking for a room for the night. We stayed in one of the older rooms on the side of the pool, and although a bit 'retro' in appearance and decor (kinda looks like a motel out of the 60's) the room was clean, cozy and comfy and had everything we needed. The bathroom was spotless, the shower although small and dimly lit, had lots of hot water and great water pressure, the mattress was firm, the kitchen well stocked w/ a cold fridge, pots and pans, coffeemaker etc., fast wifi connections in the rooms, and the staff was very friendly. You couldn't beat the location and the price was reasonable..nothing is 'cheap' in this area! We were only going to stay one night, but decided to stay for a second and explore the area by renting the beach cruisers from the hotel and biking for the day. The bikes were great!! We'd go back again!

We had a mini-family reunion ast this hotel and were able to get 4 rooms in a row in one of the renovated areas. The rooms all opened up to the ocean (view), with a long patio allowing us to enjoy breakfast and happy hour watching the sun rise and set. We included a suite with a kitchen so were able to cook breakfast ourselves, which was nice. The rooms were lovely -- white and blue, Pottery Barn (or PB-like) wicker chairs ... great decorate touches. The shower -- unexpected -- and beautiful, as described by others. There's a nice deli/coffeeshop just below the Inn as well other shops. Walking distance to the lighthouse, pier, boardwalk and downtown. Bike rentals just around the corner. You can pick up the Roaring Camp & Big Trees railroad nearby as well.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a renovated room; not sure if they've all been renovated ... it was a work-in...

Came here knowing we were getting an upgraded room and they did not disappoint! The shower is HUGE with double shower heads! Beds are comfy and the decor matched the pictures on the website. The floors are wooden which relieves the guilt a little when I come off the beach and may have a little extra sand in my shoes. There is a great organic deli downstairs and plenty of restaurants on the wharf right across the street. The boardwalk is closer than I thought it was. The Coconut Grove is about a block away. This is great because my Mom can't walk far. The rooms are a little pricy but look for some great deals online because you can't beat this location!

My wife and I stayed at Beach Street Inn & Suites prior to the completion of their renovation. We stayed in a newly remodeled room. The room was well done, fresh and done with thought. The location and view of the wharf, beach and Santa Cruz Bay were outstanding. We could walk to restaurants, the wharf and the beach. We really enjoyed the stay and recommend Beach Street.

Room Tip: There are two types of rooms, those overlooking the beach and bBay and those near the pool

We stayed here on a Friday night in mid-September. The boardwalk area is a lot busier (and no doubt noisier) earlier in the summer, of course. The boardwalk rides were closed while we were here. There were folks on the beach, including volleyball players, a musician on the street, and one insomniac seal off the wharf, but other than that it was very quiet, and any noise we did hear was unobjectionable (including the seal). If your window is open you can hear the waves, as well as any vocalizing marine mammal. ;-)

We loved the hotel. We had an ocean front room (second level up from street) with chairs on the patio in front of our room for admiring the view. The first level has the same porch area. The third level up has a nice grassy area with chairs. (See pictures.) Then there are non-ocean front rooms in the back by the pool.

The room was very clean with hardwood floors, white shutters and bedding (see picture), and the biggest shower I’ve ever seen. The double-headed shower was great for me and my 3-year-old granddaughter. We didn’t have to share!

My daughter and granddaughter used the pool in the evening. It closes at 9. It is heated but not warm warm. And there’s no hot tub, unfortunately. But there are bbq grills you can use with an eating area, and a firepit the staff will light on request. A number of families were using this option, and we might next time.

You can’t beat the location, right across from the beach and wharf. There are stairs to the street (see picture), and you can use your key to come back. Parking is free, one car per room, with easy access from in front of and behind the hotel. (Just remember the street in front is one-way.) The room had a fridge, microwave, plates and cutlery. The beds were very comfortable. I really can’t think of anything negative to say about this hotel, and hope to come again!

Room Tip: Each of the three oceanfront levels is different, and the ones by the pool are much less desirable.

I was very surprised by this place. It totally exceeded expectations. The room was lovely. Very clean, practical and with a lovely view of Santa Cruz and the barking seals. Very comfortable stay - don't be put off by the reception area when you check-in, it isn't impressive, but the rooms are immense! Would love to stay here again.

The newly renovated rooms are nice but small, it also states full kitchen! not.
and I spent $628 for two nights way over priced you can get a room at the Ritz for $400 a night. The staff was very nice and location is great on the beach.
I will not go back to this hotel. And some friends stayed up by the pool and the
rooms were horriable they paid less but very out dated old linens, paint, drapes etc.
