“We loved the Beach Street Inn and Suites”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2011

We reserved an updated poolside room and were fortunate to be upgraded to a beachfront room. The staff was very kind and the room was amazing. Lovely light blue walls, nice, cozy beds with plenty of pillows, and a fantastic bathroom with a double granite shower. Our stay was perfect and the rooms are really, really nice - you will enjoy staying here. The new granite shower is perfect, and you can't beat the location. It is just steps to the beach and a a short walk to the boardwalk.

I have been staying at the Terrace Court which is now call Beach Street Inn and Suites for over 30 years. I couldn't wait to come to Santa Cruz and stay here. It has been a family tradition that has carried on for generations. When my children were small I would stay on one of the upper levels because the it is very noisy on the balcony, but now that my kids are older we enjoy the balcony and watching people. This year, 2011, we had a horrible experience with one of our grumpy, snooty neighbors, as well as management and oweners, who seemed to rule our balcony. We couldn't make any noise or they would call and complain to management. We were threatened to be kicked out without a refund if we didn't keep quiet by 11pm. The boardwalk doesn't close until 11pm and the bar across the street doesn't close until 2am. I guess they are trying to make this an upscale resort where some peoples money is better than others. It is pretty sad to say, but I will probably never stay here again unless they get new owners. I have never been treated like a bigger piece of s***t, than I was by the owner.

Room Tip: Remodeled room, comfortable bed, filthy floors.

The Beach Street Inn is committed to providing a relaxing environment for all of our guests. We try to handle all complaints about noise in a courteous manner, and are sorry that you felt disrespected. There is some noise from the surrounding area that is definitely outside of our control, but we do ask all guests to be respectful of their neighbors and believe that 11pm is a reasonable hour for guests to expect to be able to sleep.

We chose this hotel on the basis of the rave reviews here on TripAdvisor, but sadly we were quite disappointed with our stay. Probably our expectations were inflated by all of the reports from renovated rooms - we stayed in an un-renovated pool-side room, where everything - interior, exterior, furniture - felt just very old, like from an old motel from the 80s. The stay just didn't strike us as worth the ~$225 we paid for it, and this feeling was confirmed by our stay the next night at a similarly priced hotel room in Carmel.

On the plus side the location is absolutely perfect, and the room was nice and quiet for a good night's sleep.

We stayed in room 204 the weekend of Wharf to Wharf. The room was newly renovated and spotless. The location is perfect. Directly across from the wharf and boardwalk. We purchased the room through Groupon so it was a great value.

We had an ocean view room, and loved the balcony with the adirondack chairs with a perfect view of the ocean, wharf, and fireworks form the Boardwalk. Within walking distance to everything great. The newly renovated rooms were clean and gorgeous. Beds were very comfortable, and the double shower was a nice feature as well. Although we didn't use it this time around, loved the offering of a firepit and bbq's for a gathering or casual dinner if you are staying with a group. The staff was VERY friendly and accomodating. I would come here again and again.

We stayed with kids in a room that was right over the shops facing the beach. The place was clean and well maintained. A little pricey, but when you can cross the street to the beach and walk a block to the Board Walk, it is worth it. The staff were responsive and helpful. The kitchen was a full kitchen (stove, microwave, refer) AND they even had pots, pans, silver ware, plates, the works (the maid even washed our wine glasses). If we had known about this we would have brought more food instead of eating out.

The only blight was not the fault of the hotel: it was the restaurant across the street. See my review of the Ideal Bar and Grill: the stench from their garbage cans and unwashed sidewalks was mildly annoying.

Overall, stay at this hotel, you won't be sorry. I'll increase the rating to five stars when Ideal Bar and Grill gets their act together.
