“Awesome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2014

What a great place, we arrived on Friday without a reservation but were seated at the bar very comfortably. We had a shared salad and two entrees, a lamb shank that was perfect and a halibut special with lemon/cream/dill sauce that was out of this world.

We had a nice bottle of wine and all for a little less than $100 - great meal and well worth it - all with a Mediterranean flare!

“Novel dishes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2014

The tasty meal has dishes from a swath of countries from India, Pakistan, Afghanistan to the mediterranean. For some dishes, the national origins are well known and for others it was a guess. What one get is a pleasant surprise in taste, texture and appearance.

“Delicious!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2014

My honey and I and my brother were looking for a place to have lunch and chose Laili based on its TA rating and proximity to where we were, and the Mediterranean/Afghanistan menu was definitely an enticement. The service was good, but on the slow side; the ambiance was fine, nothing to write home about; but the food was delicious and the reason I gave Laili an excellent rating. The three of us loved our food choices; we left the restaurant feeling very happy and satisfied. If you are in Santa Cruz, give Laili a whirl, don't think you will be disappointed.

“One more happy gourmet surprise on our road trip!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2014

We're traveling down the coast of California, seeing what food we can discover with no advance planning. Laili Restaurant was a very happy surprise. We chose it from "Around Me" on the IPhone, and had no idea until we looked at the menu what type of food they served. Contrary to one review, we thought the portions were large and the prices excellent for the area. As a matter of fact, they were modest compared to our favorite Mediterranean spot in Bakersfield. I had a delicious lamb burger, cooked medium rare to my order. It was accompanied by a fresh organic green salad and some excellent potatoes. My companions both took the lunch special, with soup, salad, and some tasty empanada type pastries stuffed either with spinach or squash, with 3 delicious little dips on the side. It's difficult to get pastry like that crisp, flaky and tender, this pastry was all three. (I stole a taste!). The service was excellent, and the surroundings lovely.

“A disappointment”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2014

The restaurant offers middle eastern food, truly an attractive and possibly enticing offering. That's really about as far as it got. The portion were very small, the prices were inflated and one time the hostess was rude. However, I certainly can't take it away from the waitress. She was wonderful. Too bad she's stuck in a lousy restaurant. We gave it two tries. Beyond the wine which was excellent both times, everything else went out the door. There are some major changes that they have to make before I ever step in that place again.
