My mother visited Santa Cruz as a teen in the 1920's and I have fond memories of many treks here from the 50's to now. In some ways the town has changed but it still hangs onto the traditional beach culture. The Sea and Sand is one of the old time motels on a hill that has gone through extensive remodeling over the years. It has a great setting and the rooms are nicely updated. You have several choices, but I think the ones with a porch are the best. People can walk past but the space is generous and the view is great. The breakfast is very basic - don't expect much - but there are many choices nearby. Parking is by the sidewalk on the street side, and somewhat limited. The Boardwalk is downhill and behind the hotel; for those who might have some difficulty there are parking lots - very open in mornings - just across the street from the main entrances. We very much enjoyed our two night stay.
