“Tis is a wonderful place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013

Both of us have insomnia from time to time and we slept thru all 3 nights. You know the saying, "Sleep that knits up the raveled sleeve of care"! Well, we did it, it's just cool enough in the rooms. The staff as well as the guests were very friendly. And if you can't sleep, Floyd at the front desk will be awake ready to answer all your questions. Security is great, don't worry about your car -- the valet guys are there late. When they are gone Floyd can easily get your car, there's a security person walking the property at night. it's really hands on! Pool is great, the restaurant is available at 7am sharp. We meet the general manager of the hotel last year, he's really turned the place around to be a shinning success on a super beach!

Room Tip: We like pool side, and if you stay in the fall watch the sun come up on the far right pool side -- b...

We stayed here after a 3 day conference in San Fran and decided to take a few days on a motorcycle via the PCH to LA. This was our first stop and it was selected on the basis of the Trip Advisor reports. It's been recently renovated with rooms to a clean and simple style, larger than most American hotels we've stayed at. Fabulous views over the beach and friendly and efficient staff. We ate at one of the restaurants on the pier, rather than the hotel restaurant and, judging by the reports of the latter, that may have been a mistake.

No issues than an automatic and erroneous charge for valet car parking. We didn't even have a car; the charge was immediately removed.

Will stay there again next time - why take the risk?

Loved this hotel and def did not want to leave,, staff were so accommodating - letting us check in when we arrived early in the morning - that NEVER happens anywhere - so was so refreshing when Pamela said "sure no problem, your rooms ready now"". Highly recommend to anyone who wants to be right on the beach, a a funky hotel with too many retro things to list !

Room Tip: They are all beachfront ,,

Hubby and I came here for several days on vacation. Felt very welcome from our drive up. We stayed on the top floor and could see all over Santa Cruz Shore and parts of Monterey Bay. The room was very inviting, terrific bed and several choices of pillows. Each room has a balcony and patios for the 1st floor. 1st floor opened up to the pool area and seemed to be a good floor for families. Bathroom door was a slider which was a great choice for this room. Shampoo, conditioner, body and face products were remarkable. Parking was convenient, but quite expensive. Pool was clean but a bit warm for us. Spa was hot like it's supposed to be. Easy access to beach from pool area, beach has nice walking. We did not use room service but did have breakfast in their restaurant. Good food and reasonable. Hotel is close to pier and boardwalk, easy walk. Only thing I missed was a gym. You would think a place this expensive would have one and they surely had the space. Getting Ice was not so convenient from the 10th floor as you had to go down to the 2nd, 3rd or 4th floors to get that. Once I heard how loud the machine was, the walk down was not so bad. They did advertise about not changing towels unless they were on the floor but did not follow through. We kept our towels up high, but they were changed daily. Overall pretty pricy, but nice. We may stay there again.

Thank you for taking your time to tell the world of your experience. We are thrilled that we lived up to our namesake and certainly hope to see you again. We are truly lucky to have such a spectacular location. I do apologize that we didn't execute one of our greening practices with consistency and we will continue to tighten that up. We went here for a weekend stay and chose one of their nicest rooms. With the exception of RoomService/F&B Director and Lauren at Front Desk found service to be slow and unresponsive and seemingly, inexperienced. Requests for assistance went unanswered by guest relations, front desk, etc. This is a good choice for families -- kids are screaming in the swimming pool by 8 am and wedding party is likewise screaming at the pool til 11pm. This was the shoulder season (October, not summer) and we decided not to return again, given the average hotel ambience. Room was nice, I readily acknowledge, but everything else from check in to errors at check out (offered us a small credit and then "forgot" to apply it) was just sub standard.

Dear Sunew117:

We hope all is well since you spent time with us and are stoked that you enjoyed your room. As you can see from most reviews; marginal service is not something we would expect from our team. We do understand the need for accuracy, efficiency, accountability, and friendliness when providing service to our guests and failing you on this is unacceptable. We will review your commentary with the entire team so that we can continue to elevate our service level and make certain we are executing with professionalism and heartfelt care. Thank you again, we hope you give us another opportunity to exceed your expectations in the future.

Warm Regards

The Dream Inn is an old motel building that's been renovated and to be honest they've done a pretty decent job. They've given it a facelift and modernised the rooms. It's not the highest quality furniture but it's new and clean and modern. That said, it felt like they'd spent a lot more on the bathroom which was really nice. The thing that really let the renovation down was the balcony which looked like it had been overlooked.

That said, it's in a great location overlooking the beach and all rooms have a beach view with even the bottom floor being raised off the beach. The top floors have cloud king rooms which have a wonderful outlook and there's nothing better than having the window open at night with the wind blowing and the seals barking.

We had dinner in the restaurant as well which was good. Very nice food, lovely staff and a great ambiance. Definitely worth visiting.

If we had to go back to Santa Cruz, we'd probably stay here again as it seemed like one of the better hotels in town.

Dear Gunner7:

We hope your travels are finding you well and we are thrilled that you enjoyed your stay. We love that you noticed our history and the general retro style motor lodge roots. It really informed our designers on what to do with the rooms when we renovated in 2008. We hope to see you again soon and look forward to welcoming you back.

Just spent the weekend at the Dream Inn for my 10 year old daughter's Girl Scout Troop's Mother/Daughter weekend. The kids and moms loved it! Great location, boutique decorated guest rooms, warm pool/hot tub, nice firepits, great staff. The kids loved that we could play on the beach, or swimming pool, walk over to Boardwalk to go on rides, have lunch on the pier, etc.

Looking forward to going back. All of the staff were so friendly and helpful (from the front desk, bellboys, valet, etc.)

Room Tip: All rooms overlook the ocean!
